Christmas Gifts for Quilters post 6

Really?  Did I really just mention Christmas in September?  That's not good.  But I have a plan you will like.  Coming up soon, once a week or so, will be a series of posts giving the people in your life ideas for presents for you for Christmas.  So you just leave your laptop lying open on my posts and wait for your significant others, friends and family to take the hint and buy you the kinds of things you would really like to receive rather than yet another cardigan two sizes too big, more soap, more candles or more pyjamas.

Why am I doing this?  Because over the next few months, blogs will be full of wonderful things to make and do for OTHER PEOPLE because that's what motivates quilters, making other people happy, giving other people nice things, making nice things for other people.  Well Lily's Quilts would like to do something to redress that balance.  On this blog, it's all about paying a little bit back to the quilters.

And in the spirit of it all being about US, there will be giveaways so that, even if your family won't buy it for you, you might be able to win it here.  See this box of Aurifil?  I have one of those to give away for example.
Quilting shops, fabric shops, fabric companies and notions companies, please feel free to come forward with ideas from your shops and companies and, if you'd like to give some away, the more the merrier, just get in touch with me at lilysquilts @ gmail . com.  And readers, please add comments to these posts with things you would like to receive for Christmas so I can add those to the ever-growing list.

Now in each Christmas post there will be three sizes of gift.  A small gift the person you work with might like to give you, a larger gift perhaps from someone in the family or a friend whose children you look after more than you would really like to.  And finally the BIG GIFT.  The one that someone who is either really rich or who really loves you might buy you.

  4. Personally I'd like a bigger garden, a faster pregnancy and a prawn linguine for Xmas all of which are impossible. Lynne if you can fix it for any of these to happen I'd be a better friend than I am now.So there.

  12. Fabulous idea - I would love a Go Baby as my accuracy at cutting needs to improve..at the other end of the scale, an FQ of Secret Garden or some Aurifil thread perhaps?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Fab idea! Although nobody is ever looks hard enough at my open laptop to take the hint! I'll just have to do what I normally do and buy stuff myself or hope I win something in the giveaway.

  14. I would love to get more ideas for what I can make for people- stuff they won't just throw in the closet or give to Goodwill. This Christmas I want to know that my son-in-law will be safe in the air force.

  20. I guess I better start being good if Santa is going to bring me any of those goodies!

    ReplyDelete
  21. For me in the Big category, it's the Go Baby Accuquiter.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Blimey - all those goodies. You could be sneaky and pretend to give them away and instead keep them all for yourself! I would.....

    ReplyDelete
  23. Love this idea. EQ7 for me for sure and fabric, fabric, fabric...call me greedy, but you sure can't call me Scrooge. Merry Christmas to us all as we prepare for the holiday rush.

  30. I'm dreaming of a White Christmas... All filled with fabric and gifts galore.. Where the machines are a hummin'...cause they know Christmas is coming...and everyone is waiting to see what they get..

  33. Super brilliant - unfortunately it won't work with my DH - we rarely buy each other presents - we buy what we need/fancy as we go along - but like any girl - OK nearing 50 woman, I love surprises, especially ones that I can use to 'play' with - sometimes even sisters don't get it, a set of complimenting plains FQs get a bigger AH, OH, stroke, fondle than any fancy package of 'I love you, but you stink' smellies ;0)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ohhh, how fun! I can't wait to see all the ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Besides lots of gift tokens for fabric shops, I would love to try those rulers that keep your rotary blade sharp when you use it.

Maybe a chocolate shop would like to sponsor a post too! Quilters love chocolate after all!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well deck the halls - what a great idea! Last year I received gift vouchers for some really fun local quilting classes from my hubby - it was one of his better gift ideas through the years!

    ReplyDelete
  37. PS - I'm with Susan on the chocolate idea!

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is a great idea, because I sometimes struggle with what to give as gifts to my quilter friends. Longtime quilters probably already have the quilting necessities, but maybe not many of the newest products.

  39. What a fantastic idea - Lynne strikes again! Hope everything's ok x

Such a mega fabulous idea :)

  46. Goodness, I feel cheerful and Christmassy already.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Great idea,Merry Christmas!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. What a generous thought. What would you like for Christmas??

    ReplyDelete
  49. Merry Christmas to me. Thanks for thinking of this.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Sure...I can even print off the list and tape it everywhere - the fridge, the bathroom mirror, the inside (and outside) of the front door, the steering wheel...so bring it on!

Me? I'd love to have some of that Aurifil thread (I'd love, love, loev some thread), and some Go! Baby dies, some quilt kits, and some ready-made totes/bags (I don't like making them). Fabric is always nice and very much appreciated.

  51. Dear Santa, I know I swore I'd never iron clothes, and therefore have the crappiest offering of a steam iron Argos had, but I actually need a good iron now for all my quilting and clothes making. Thank you :oD

    ReplyDelete
  52. This is hilarious. You're awesome! I'm looking forward to your series with a little bit of trepidation... I suspect it's just going to tempt me to buy stuff for myself. :D

    ReplyDelete
  53. ME FIRST! I like it. Sign me up for the Kaffe Fassett Berry collective FQ set please! LOVE all those prints.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yeah! Cant wait to see what you have planned.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ooooh Ooooh...I never knew how to pronounce Kaffe Fasset, so I was always nervous about asking for his fabric. Now I just have to leave this page open ! VermontPines@aol.com

  56. What a fantastic idea - love it!

    ReplyDelete
  57. What a great idea....so many things on my list...a Go! is one of them, I think quilt kits are always a good idea too. I am going to forward this post to a couple of my shop owner friends. Thanks!

  58. wonderful idea alot of good quilting stuff out there

    ReplyDelete
  59. i always believed in santa claus!! yay. i am collecting kaffe fasset fabrics at the moment for a planned quilt. so those FQs are right up my alley!. love's me some fabric.............now what does Lynne want for Xmas?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ho, ho, ho, it's a Westminster Big Shot Pro by Sizzix for this gal, but I'd happily settle for a small collection of the new Kaffe Fassett line! Merry Christmas!

    ReplyDelete
  61. WOW, what a great idea! I'm asking for Liberty of London fabrics for Christmas - who wouldn't want some of those???

    ReplyDelete
  62. Great idea! I always forget to write things down when I think of them and then end up not having the best wish list to send out. My mother can be dangerous if I don't send a list. I love her, but sometimes I wonder what she was thinking. I def want EQ7....and more fabric. Maybe some new patterns or books? And definitely some shiny new toys...like "baby" toys...

    ReplyDelete
  63. Guess I am going to have to try and return the soap, the candle, the cardigan and the pyjamas then! And I thought I had birthday sorted.....

  64. What a good idea - sadly though nobody looks at what I have open - and hints don't seem to work......
What I would really like (other than some aurifil threads to try out) is a tidy house well before Christmas!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sounds absolutely great to me. I can't wait to read more and perhaps win something.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oooooooh Happy Holidays to us. This sounds like it's going to be lots of fun. Can't wait to see what you've got planned. The big thing on my list would be a new machine. Mine is one that's been discontinued and still uses floppy disks rather than a USB cable. I'd love to get rid of the floppies for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sounds like fun! I would like to win fabric, love all the designs!

  68. Santa,

I am dying for some of the Echo Collection by Lotta Jansdotter coming out in November. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

    Yours truly,
    Rebecca

  69. That box of Aurifil is KILLING me!!! If it were loose spools, wouldn't be so excited, but something about being packaged up in that carry case really does it for me!

    ReplyDelete
  70. This is a great idea! I would love to get a Kona color card for Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I think wish lists are absolutely the way to go. Since I created one and gently directed my loved ones there, I have received so many great quilty gifts I wouldn't have indulged in for myself.

If I were adding to it right now, my "big" wish would be for an Accuquilt Go, and my more reasonable requests would be for felted wool bundles or quilting cotton precuts. I love charm packs, love layer cakes, and can't get enough of jelly rolls in both solid colors and designs. Which reminds me--who doesn't need more Kona Cotton? And how about plain old gift certificates to the fantastic shops out there.

This is so much fun! Thanks for getting me wishing.

  74. Well...... I am actually NEEDING a new sewing machine Mr S. Claus.....and not a tinny one either please, but I guess it might weigh the sleigh down so I'll go and choose it MYSELF....just give me the credit card instead!
