So here is post no. 1 for the QAL. In this post I will give you fabric requirements for the QAL, the QAL timetable, some news about our QAL sponsor and a giveaway and our QAL button. Links to subsequent posts will be added into the timetable as they are posted.

Fabric requirements
For the six-block quilt for this QAL - ( 60" X 90"), you will need a layer cake (or equivalent fabric from your stash) and 3 yards of background fabric.
For the one-block mini quilt (30" x 30"), you will need 6 layer cake slices (or equivalent) and just over half a yard of background fabric.
Our sponsor and a giveaway
This QAL is being sponsored by my real life quilting friend, Mandy who owns Europe's premier online solids shop, Simply Solids. She is doing a deal for the QAL - one layer cake and 3 yards of Kona solid for £40. Add "Lily's Quilts QAL" into the comments box when you order and she will refund the difference back to you. Also, every person who quilts along with us will be given a chance to win the QAL giveaway, a layer cake of your choice from Simply Solids. We will have a QAL giveaway post coming up soon.
And you can't have a QAL without a QAL button so here it is.
Don't forget to join the Flickr group where we'll be sharing our progress as we go - and show us what fabrics you're using. And finally, having realised that creating a blogroll was going to be a mammoth task, I have started a thread in the Flickr group for blog addresses and will be having regular linkys here for blogposts on progress.

Very organised! wish i could join in and create - but will happily watch and be tempted :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a lily's quilts gal, so I'm using that button! ;) Now I just need to pick out fabric! Agh! Hmm..I have some math to do!
ReplyDeleteGood grief woman what time were you up to post this - do you ever sleep?
ReplyDeleteI hope all have fun on the quilt along and I'll be watching all these blocks being created in the Flickr group
Have fun
I'd love to join in, but we're in the middle of moving house, so I think I'll have to sit it out. I hope it's a success and you do another one!
ReplyDeleteeeeep - I am so tempted! Shame I have a pile of WIPs as high as my ceiling :-(
ReplyDeleteLynne,
ReplyDeleteI cannot start another project but I will be watching the progress. I am overloaded right now with quilts to be finished and lots of other things going on. The QAL looks wonderful.
Carol
Oh fun! I'm in over my head at the moment but I'll be watching :-)
ReplyDeleteMmmm, all that talk of layer cakes reminds me it is time for a little smackerel of something. I too will be watching from the corner table.
ReplyDeleteoh and Happy 70th Mommy Dearest
ReplyDeleteI've never done a quiltalong before and never done Dresden Plates and never have enough time so all seem good enough reasons to join in.
ReplyDeleteBring on the fun! Another excuse to spend money at Mandy's as if I need another one! :-)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like fun Lynne! Count me in!
ReplyDeleteI'll try very hard to follow this!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make time to do this one...although I have NO IDEA which fabrics to choose!
ReplyDeleteI hate not having a fabric budget for this month...oh well, guess I'll just have to pull from the ole stash. :) Actually, my favorite quilts have all been stash busters so I'm looking forward to this!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have set a very manageable timeline. Hurray for the QAL!
ReplyDeleteI dont know how I'll cope with the time schedule when I've got other wips and single girl to finish... but I cant resist... I'm in...
ReplyDeleteOk can I manage the Charley Harper quiltalong and this one? along with everything else? I'll give it a go! As for flickr and linkys I haven't a clue but no doubt I can fumble through!:)
ReplyDeleteIm hoping to find some of this lovely fabric to be able to participate!
ReplyDeleteWow, I love this idea! I think that I will play along, though I will have to start a little late and then catch up, as I have to finish my doll quilt (for the swap!) first. Also, then I can decide what fabric to use!
ReplyDeleteI think I will do the one block mini :)
I'm going to be gone for part of the QEL but I will try to follow you. Love the quilt, but will not be participating this time.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Christmas for mine....always best to get a jump on gifts and what better month than March to get started, I say! Thanks for holding our hands, Lynne!
ReplyDeleteI just ordered fabric! Hope it gets here fast!
ReplyDeleteI'm in...I will do some digging around and see what fabrics I can come up with.
ReplyDeleteSo excited! I am trying to narrow down my choices between Tula Pink Parisville or plume!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to join in and do the one block mini, or maybe 2 versions of it, don't have time to do the entire thing unfortunately!
ReplyDeleteSingle Girl quiltalong and now this? More curved piecing? I though be an expert when I get through with both of these!
ReplyDeleteCurves and QAYG...I'm sold. But I think I better stick with the small version for now :o)
ReplyDeleteI think I'm in. I've got a couple of layer cakes waiting for the right project. Thanks for the quilt along!
ReplyDeleteI love this little quilt. Your quilting in circles is so awesome. Do you have a circular attachment for your machine?
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! Now what fabric to choose!! I'm thinking about the hideaway layer cake but which coordinating kona solids?? My brain is not working just now so email me lynne and tell me which soilds go with Hideaway!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have wanted to try a quilt as you go quilt.I will need to use fabrics from the stash so will probably end up with a different look.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll try this, but just the mini quilt!
ReplyDeleteI have so many things I'd love to try, so not sure... must make a few moments to figure out my projects!
I am so tempted! I have always wanted to try the dresdan plate, but I have so many project and not enough time. I'll have to think about this one!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done dresden's yet but would love to try them and I have just signed up for a DQS so the mini quilt would be a perfect size!
ReplyDeleteI've seen this all over blogland today - well, several times - seems like a sign;) I'll be sure to watch your progress - I'd love to join in - we'll see if I can work it in - thanks for offering this!
ReplyDeleteI'm officially in! I blogged it so it must be so. http://bijouxbaby.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-first-quilt-along.html
ReplyDeleteWould love to join yet am concerned at being overcommitted and unable to "get 'r done". I had checked out this several times this week then read littlebluechair and came back again!
ReplyDeleteI have stacks of Kaffe Fasset Fabric just waiting for a rotary cutter. I'm Joining! woo whoo.
ReplyDeleteI'm super excited to do this QAL Lily! I have alwasy wanted to learn a Dresden and now I can. I'm blogging about it now and picking my fabric!
ReplyDeleteOh so tempted! I have my own Paper-piece QAL I just started but this one could be so quick to put toegether. ahh, do I have the time? We'll see.. :)
ReplyDeleteI just found this Quilt Along today, and I am so in! I am being un-original and using my Sherbet Pips Fat Quarter Bundle, because yours is so beautiful, but I am using a different background fabric that I ordered today! I'm off to work....
ReplyDeleteMMM I could be tempted!!! Love the Sherbet Pips design...I can't wait to get my hands on a FQB of this!
ReplyDeleteSherbet Pips should arrive this week - almost time for me to get my 3 yards of background fabric! YAY! :) So excited about making the quilt on this quilt a long... I have so many projects due before this one can be started but I'm excited to hoard the materials until I have time to start it haha. My layercake is waiting patiently for some yardage friends :-D
ReplyDeleteJust found your site at "From the Blue Chair"- I'm only a 1-year-old quilter but I am fascinated with Dresdens and can't wait to give them a shot. I, too, am in the midst of a move but it never stopped me before. Thanks for this fun opportunity! :D
ReplyDeleteOk..another quilt I want to add to my list. I will do my best...to keep up with this. Heading to Simply Solids now. Grabbing the button for my blog.
