QAL assembling the quilt top

Join this QAL at any time.  The starter post is here and the Flickr group to share your progress shots is here.  I have now sewn the six sections together. Each one is quilted with just the wadding on the back. I used 1/2" seams to sew the blocks together and then top stitched over each seam to hold the seam allowance bits flat as pressing alone did not do a very good job of this. Next step is to attach a backing and I first need to decide whether to use the IKEA sheet I already have or to buy a warm, soft fleece to go on the back.

My QAL quilt is now a quilted quilt top

Thx for this lovely QAL. I would not have tried a number of things without your push-along. *S*

  8. This is the second post I have read about using IKEA sheets for backing. Boy, I am so out of the loop when it comes to these things. But, IKEA is only a few miles away for I guess I will be making a stop there in the next few weeks.
Your quilt looks great, by the way!

  9. Cool pic!! The wheels look amazing sewn together with the skinny borders around each one. What a great feeling to have them already quilted. You're almost done!

  11. Looks fantastic, I love the colours. It is bright yet coherent within. I guess it really depends on what you want to use it for. The fleece is obviously a lot warmer and more cosy but as we are entering summer (however feeble the British one may be) the IKEA sheet might be the better option.
