So it is my stop on the Optical Illusions Book Party blog hop. As it says on the cover, this book contains a beautiful selection of quilts from a variety of modern quilt designers and I've chosen a few of my favourites further down in the post to give you a taste of the style of quilts in the book.
... and 3D Diamonds by Jenifer Dick.
For my stop on the blog hop, I am giving away two Oakshott colourshott charm packs plus one Oakshott sample pack.
And of course my favourite quilt in the book is this Old Dutch quilt made and designed by Melissa Corry inspired by a field of windmills on a recent family holiday. Made using an Oakshott Italy Fat Eighth bundle, the quilt has a lovely traditional feel made modern with the use of solids which I love.
Other stunning quilts from the book which really caught my eye include water ripples by Jessica Toye ...
... Curvilinear by Katie Larson ...... and 3D Diamonds by Jenifer Dick.
So be in with a chance of winning the three Oakshott charm/sample packs, leave a comment below, any comment at all, perhaps one with a pun in to keep me entertained!

ReplyDeleteWhat a neat book! Thanks for sharing it! My first interest in quilting was illusion quilts. What's Barbie's favorite country? K Ken-ya!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilts! Here is a halloween inspired one, just a little late :) Why did the ghost cross the road? To get to the "other side"! :)

ReplyDeleteI love quilting and have plenty of material witnesses! Wahooo!

Ha! Not bad for 5:00 in the morning :) of course, I'll realize how bad it is later. But you did say you wanted a pun, which clearly means an off the cuff limerick would be even more exciting! Hope you have a wonderful day. And I hope I win the beautiful Oakshott Cotton. It is truly gorgeous :)

ReplyDeleteWhat amazing quilts. I too really like the Dutch Windmill. It's a simple design and the minimum contrast between the windmill blades and the background makes it fun to really 'see' the blades. Thanks for hosting this giveaway. Sorry, no pun for you.
ReplyDeleteI love the Old Dutch quilt, those muted colours and the circular quilting are perfect.
ReplyDeleteThose are incredible quilts! I can't think of anything punny at the moment and that's unusual. Very.

ReplyDeleteA dyslexic man walks into a bra...
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the blue one by Jessica Toye. At first I couldn't figure out why it looked like it had movement - using the small black and white pieces really is a subtle way to give it that 3D effect!

ReplyDeleteDidnt mean to say'pus' should have said puns !!
ReplyDeleteIt's too late in the day for me to think of a pun. I'll just leave a bog standard comment.

ReplyDeletejlblvn at gmail dot com
I'm never able to make a pun deliberately (unlike my brother who can riff them together without end) although I'm occasionally embarrassed by unintentional ones. My next long term project is a Dear Jane quilt. The only fabric that will do for this labour of love is Oakshott. I'm thinking that these lovely shot cottons will make the traditional design a traditional/modern fusion. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI have a vision of dancing elephants in my head made with oakshott. No idea why but those optical quilts made me think of the drunk sequence in Dumbo
ReplyDeleteLike the Curvelinear quilt. Very stunning.
ReplyDeleteIs the color shot on the Oakshott colourshott fabrics? I sure would be charmed to win the Oakshott colourshott charm pack.

ReplyDeleteOld Dutch is now on my list of "want to make" quilts! And, because it's comprised of HST and squares, I CAN make it. I appreciate that Melissa has even supplied the world with an instructional video for the spiral quilting she used.
ReplyDeleteAnd for your entertainment... There once was a person who sent ten different puns to friends, with the hope that at least one of the puns would make them laugh. No pun in ten did.

Love this book! I'd like to try the old dutch man one tool.
ReplyDeleteMy dad was a great punster, but this pun comes from a frustrating day at work when the color copier was making me crazy by not working correctly. I called administration to report the situation and try to get a little sympathy about my report being late. The Admin Asst asked me, "Is the color copier making you blue?" I got a good laugh from that! Thanks for the chance to win.

Well, all the puns I can think of are ones my 5 and 7 yr. old have come home from school with, and all involve "potty talk" that I'm trying desperately to get them to stop... so I'll leave you with the only joke I can ever remember (again in the 5-7 age range...) "What's a duck's favorite food?" "Quackers!" (groan!) sarah@forrussia.org
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a book I'll have to check out. Being Dutch, I have to like the first one, but Curvilinear would be great in Oakshotts and 3D diamonds is tempting, too! No pun (sorry, too early in the morning for me to be funny...)
