Siblngs Together 2014

Do you have siblings?  Do you see them?  Are you close?  Did you grow up together?  Well many children in the care system are separated from their siblings and see them rarely if ever.  Siblings Together is a charity set up with the purpose of bringing together those siblings at day events and at summer camps where they get to spend quality time together.  This year, as well as the drive for as many quilts as we can get together, we are looking for some high profile siblings who were separated from their siblings in the care system who might be persuaded to help the charity in some way.  So please, do any of you out there know anyone or know anyone who knows anyone who might fall into this category.  Neil Morrissey comes to mind but I don't know him or how to contact him.  Do any of you or do you know someone else who might fit the bill?  If so, we'd love to hear from you.

Delma, the charity's founder and I started a tradition two years ago of providing quilts to each one of those children in each of the camps.  As the charity grows, so do the camps and so we need more and more quilts each year.  And so I am reaching out to you once again.  Can you make a quilt?  Spare a quilt?  Join together with some friends and make a quilt or two?  To find out more, head on over to this post that kicked it all off two years ago.  Somewhere around 70-80 quilts were donated last year and the year before.  Delma took them to the summer camps.  As the week went on, the care workers looked at the quilts and made decisions as to which quilt suited which kid or kids.  The quilts were given out at the end of the camps and - this is the bit that broke my heart - it took a lot of persuading to persuade those kids that the quilts were theirs to keep.

Quilts for Siblings Together

And so we're starting again.  A whole new pile of quilts.  A whole new batch of kids. Summer camps are in July so you have a few months to get something together.  Would you join me? Would you get involved? I have created a Flickr group where we can see what we can come up with. Please leave comments on this post letting me know if you would like to get involved in any way at all and hop on over to the Flickr group, join up and see what we can do.

How can you get involved?  Donate a quilt you've made which hasn't been used and which you think a kid might love.  Make a quilt to donate.  Make a pair or a trio of quilts to donate.  Get a group of quilters together to make blocks for a quilt or quilts.  Offer some of your stash for someone else to make a quilt.  Offer your quilting services.  If you're a shop, maybe offer to provide the backing for one or two quilts.  Spread the word, grab the button and share it on your blog.  And head on over to the Flickr group where all the information awaits you from last year's quilt drive.  And thank you!

  9. I'll have a think about people who are in the public eye who could help - I wonder whether tweeting someone like Stephen Fry might be worth a go...

  10. I have one quilt made and hope to do at least one more. I also hope to gave a couple of knitted/crocheted blankets which Delma said would also be acceptable.

  11. I have some cotton material that quilters might find useful. I don't have the patience or skills to make a quilt, but I'd love someone else to use this for Siblings Together.
