Classic Modern Quilts

Classic Modern Quilts just landed on my doormat today.  Scroll to the end of the post if you'd like to get your hands on a copy of this elusive book.

Ten quilts.  Each one a modern twist on historical Kansas City Star Blocks.  Mine is called King's Treasure, named after a game my kids play in the garden where someone is at base (usually the trampoline), everyone else hides around the garden and has get back back to base.  Do you know the game I mean and what do you call it?!  I made this quilt using Shelburne Falls by Denyse Schmidt and it is probably the least modern quilt in the book as really I am a traditional quilt maker at heart.

This much more modern quilt was designed and made by Amy Smart who is one of my favourite modern quilters.  On top of which, for a while many moons ago, we lived within about a mile of each other in London without ever knowing each other or knowing that one day we would take up quilting and become friends across the great divide of the Atlantic Ocean.

Another quilt I love in this book is made by another online friend, Adrienne Ove.  I love how fresh, bright and simple this one is.

I have a (very) few copies for sale (signed by moi if you wish) for £15 shipped in the UK.  If anyone outside the UK is interested, I am happy to find out shipping costs.  Payment by paypal.  Leave a comment to this post if you'd like to buy a copy and we can organise it from there.

  10. Pretty quilts! The game your kids play reminds me of one we played, but always at night. One person waited at the base while everyone else hid. That person went looking for the others, who tried to make it back to to the base without getting caught. If they were spotted, they ran like crazy and yelled the name of the game - Bloody Murder. I imagine we had extremely tolerant neighbors.

  12. I think that game is "hide and seek", right? In Dutch we call it " verstoppertje" we played it endlessly when I was in primary school!

  16. Honestly, because of your fabrics, I think your quilt looks the most modern of the three shown here. Congrats on the book. You have got to be so proud.

Kids here in the states play a very similar game called "Hide and Seek".
