Abakhan Christmas Projects on a Budget

This month we will pick two or possibly even three people to make Abakhan Christmas Projects on a Budget. Here's the idea. You head on over to Abakhan Fabrics and pick out £20 worth of anything that takes your eye. We send it to you free, you make, photograph and write a tutorial to go on my blog.
So here's what you need to do:
1. You can now be anywhere in the world to participate in this challenge!
2. Leave a comment on this post telling me what you would like to make using £20 worth of anything from Abakhan.
3. In a few days from today, I will choose two winners who will have one month to choose their booty from Abakhan, make something and write a tutorial.
4. Don't be disheartened if I do not pick your idea this month, there are always other months.
5. The item can be anything at all - clothing, quilted or non quilted items - anything crafty at all really.
6. Be as original, as traditional, as creative or as simple as you like.
7. And this month's theme is CHRISTMAS - anything at all to do with Christmas and all the paraphernalia that goes with it! You can find some Christmas inspiration here.

  1. I would make Christmas tree ornaments that could also be used as bunting/garland. They would be made from felt with print fabrics sewn on top for interest and possibly lightly stuffed (depending on the budget) There would be stars, stockings, snowmen, santas, hearts etc

  2. Even I don't have a chimney I would love to make a triangle bunting in christmasy fabrics with lovely ribbons to hung in my sewing room.

  3. How exciting! I would make a string of Christmas lights that could be used for bunting or a tree garland. The bulbs would be made of brightly coloured fabrics and quilted to add texture.

  4. Oooh what fun! I would choose the Sizzix Stocking Die and some little pegs and use the die to cut little stockings from felt I have at home. I would make 25 little stockings and embroider numbers on them, sewn up so I could put little lollies in them, then hang them on ribbon with the little pegs like a bunting advent calendar.

  5. I would use their Lampshade making kit to make a special nightlight to guide Santa and his reindeers!

  6. These are the supplies I would use:

    Scandi Tree Cotton 2 Cream 112cm sku 381354 1 meter $8

    Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon Red White 2 15mm sku 382915 4 meters $2.4

    Crushed Velour 2 Cream 150cm sku 351350 1 meter $3

    Velvet Ribbon 9629 Red 9mm sku 358430 4 meters $3

    Glitter Felt Red 23 x 30cm sku 407724 $0.80

embroidery thread: Stranded Cotton Blanc 8 metres sku 101301 $0.90

I would make two different types of gift bags, using the fabric and ribbon, with embrodered gift tags using the felt and thread.

Total value of materials: about $18
Enough to make about 8 bags depending on size of gifts.

Sorry about the dollar sign, I cannot find a pound sterling sign on my computer!

  7. I would get some felt and some sequins and make retro Christmas ornaments. Growing up in the 1960s, our tree always had felt and sequin ornaments.
