Here's a quilt I made for Sizzix using some beautiful Tilda fabrics. This quilt is 50" square - perfect cot quilt, playmat, lap quilt or wall hanging size. I cut 6 1/2" squares, lopped off the corners and replaced them with HSTs cut from the Sizzix 2 1/2" HST die. The great thing about using Sizzix HSTs is there is no trimming and I hate trimming. I then sashed using the Sizzix 1 1/2" strip die. I set the whole thing on point because almost without exception, any quilt or block looks more interesting to me set on point.
I quilted it using Aurifil 50wt 2024 which is about the colour of Kona snow. I used a 50wt rather than anything heavier as I wanted the quilting lines to add texture but otherwise just melt into the quilt. Since I was straight line quilting, I pre-marked the quilting lines with a hera marker. I used to think I could eyeball straight lines using the blocks on the quilt as a guide but for some reason, that always ends up looking messy so I always mark straight lines for quilting now and the results are much cleaner. I chose a vertical / horizontal cross hatch to work against the diagonal sashing. But what to call it?
Gorgeous quilt! Love the fabrics and the quilting! Well done!
ReplyDeleteIt looks really lovely, fresh and the on-point setting does add interest as you say. Sorry can't help with the name though.
ReplyDelete'with love from Norway', 'snowballs from Norway', 'Norwegian snowballs', really pretty is what it is though, whatever it's name :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, I like this! Great blocks for showing off lovely fabrics. What about Stepping Stones for a name?
ReplyDeleteLooks lovely, like giant Bubble "Wrap".
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt. I want a sizzix!
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt
ReplyDeleteOooh it's really brilliant. It looks like lots of kaleidoscope tunnel views.
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful quilt Lynne
ReplyDeleteLove it all!
ReplyDeleteLovely! How about snow dots?
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely!
ReplyDeleteSo so pretty!!! Love it :o)
ReplyDeleteBubbles
ReplyDeleteGum Balls
Play Ball
Dots
Spots
A very pretty quilt indeed!
It's a very elegant quilt so perhaps it needs a 'proper' name (like a person!) rather than a quilt name. I'm coming up blank so I'd best find my thinking hat and see if it still fits, I'll be back if I think of anything even halfway decent...
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely...so fresh. As for a name, I'm actually quite pathetic in naming quilts.
ReplyDelete<3 LOVE this quilt!!! GREAT job!!!!! If you get a chance, could you please take a close-up picture of just one of the squares/hexagons. I DID read your directions on your blog and that does sound like something I'd like to try. (I still NEW at this and think I can TRY anything - and found a few things I couldn't go any farther! LOL)
ReplyDeletewow, this is such a pretty, happy quilt! Love the quilting, too!
ReplyDeleteBaltic balls :)
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's really pretty. I am terrible at thinking up names, but balls comes to mind. It looks like Christmas balls, or some sort of candy...the kind people display in those great big glass jars.
ReplyDeleteI love it. I'd name if after one of my favorite aunts. You must have a favorite aunt.
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of my mother's beautiful paperweight collection, so I'd name it "Paperweights".
ReplyDeletebeautiful beautiful quilt
ReplyDeleteLost Marbles
Because, bear with me, I reckon if you ever went bonkers and lost your marbles you would eventually find them somewhere, completely organised and lined up in neat rows!
It looks fabulous Lynne
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty and a nice way to show off larger pieces of fabric. I have not good name for you, it looks like bubbles or hot air balloons to me.
ReplyDeleteThis really nice!
ReplyDeleteSaw that others already suggested to take a name after a person. Aunt Dotty comes to mind :-)
Gorgeous, this gives me an idea for the charm pack of quilt blocks that I picked up today. I may be copying you again!
ReplyDeletePixels? That's what they look like to me. It's gorgeous Lynne - you and Big Shot make a great couple.
ReplyDeleteNever Mind The Sizzix ('cause of all the balls!) - nice job x
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, because of the block style I can't think past snowballs.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely cheerful quilt! I think you might call it 'the voice of the balls!'
ReplyDeleteCunning plan with the sizzix there!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt Lynne. I would call it Bounce.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I don't know why, but I think it looks like a Beatrice.
ReplyDeleteThat is one pretty snowball quilt!
ReplyDeleteTeehee I want to suggest that it looks like 'A load of balls' but it is too pretty!
ReplyDeleteSuch a simple design but with great results...and potential!
ReplyDeleteit's preddy!
