Give yourself a blog makeover

I thought it was about time to give myself a blog makeover.  I love the Blogger dynamic views but there doesn't seem to be a sidebar for blog buttons and I'd miss that.  So I've stuck with one of the "Simple" Blogger templates and played around with it a bit to change up the fonts and tab colours.

If you want to play around with your blog templates, you need to go to "Design", top right hand corner of your blogscreen, click on "Templates", then "Custom" and then "Advanced" where you can change fonts and colour schemes.  I drew the "Lily's Quilts" circle on Touchdraw for iPad.
Whether I'll love that forever or be bored again within a few weeks, who knows.  I'd love your feedback on the whole look if you have a moment to stop and take a look.  And I'd much prefer honest feedback to kind feedback!

  1. I like to colours but it looks a bit bare up the top.

  2. A a web developer I like the overall look and color scheme of the site. The only thing I'm not thrilled with is all the wasted space above the main navigation bar. If possible, you might try to put your search bar and/or rss feed in that area. I've done it on mine (which is self-hosted wordpress) here: http://mouseinmypocket.com/

  3. I miss the cushions at the top! Nice colours, though :)

  4. I know you really want to get some fedback, so don]t shoot the messanger please...!
I would prefer the name Lily’s quilts placed horizontal. There must be an obvious reason to put text in a curve or angle (says the graphic designer and web developer).
I love minimal, but I would love to see some of your projects when I open your home page. It‘s a bit clean now, while you have such an eye for colour and make such fabulous quilts!

  5. Oh that looks much better :-) Do you like it?

  6. hey i just realized that we just bought an ipad and now I can play with this touch draw thing you are always talking about! Off to research your previous posts!

  7. oohhhh i love it and I'm not being kind!! The pictures in the circles look awesome and this is my favourite incarnation of your blog name! I'm hoping that circle will be sticking around for a new fresh sewing day button ;)

  8. I love it! It's so clean and fresh and the circular quilt 'windows' add a lovely touch. Well done- make overs are great

  9. ooh I like it v much ... I saw it earlier on but as it had no pics in the banner, I figured you were fiddlin with yer touchdraw and Lo! Now there is lilywonderment there!

I think I'd possibly change the featured circles a bit? Maybe something more whole quilty less piecey blocky included in the mix might work ?? Otherwise it's a winner x

  10. Ok you asked for feedback so please take this as constructive and not destructive. :) I like Lilys Quilts in the circle but the other circles leave me wanting to see more of your gorgeous quilts. When I go to a blog I don't even need to see the name I know where I am because of the bloggers work so I identify with your quilts. I am more of a minimalist so I like that when I open up your blog it is not bogged down with tons of buttons, etc. Too much going on and I get turned off. So bottom line.....I like the name circle, even the one that is turned sideways, but I'd like see one of your wonderful creations next to your name.
It's good to give a fresh face and I think you're on the right track. :)

  11. I love how you put the quilts in the circles like that. It is not too overwhelming, and yet you get to put the quilts in there. SWEET! And if you want you can always swap out those quilts for newer ones as you make them and fall in love with your new quilts. I think it is fantastic!

  12. I like the changes that you made....love the circles with your blog name and the quilt blocks...I need a fresh look too...maybe one of these days....thanks for sharing

  13. nice gray color and really like the header -- the only thing I might change is moving your name over to the right a big -- switching the "Lily's Quilts" circle over to the third or fourth spot.

  14. I quite like the new header! The circles are fantastic!

  15. I really like it Lynne.....a lot!!!

  16. Hi Lynne, when I open this page today, I thought I click the wrong link.. It is a good idea of you to ask others - but then again you probably find that there will an equal balance like and dislike because all people have different view..LOL.. Anyway, in my opinion, I think it is a bit less colour than the last one and the grey seems to dull out the colourful creation of yours in the circle of your header.. The layout is lovely anyway - maybe a bit less grey would brighten it up more?? Just an opinion.. But the most important thing is I'll be visiting no matter how it looks like Lynne..LOL..

  17. I like it--and I like the bright quilts in the header.

  18. It looks clean, fresh and modern to me. I like it.

  19. I like this a lot Lynne, it’s even better with the removed colours in the header buttons. I’m with Traceyjay that moving your name more to the right would make it look even better!!
No matter what, we will visit your blog but it’s nice to recognize the Lilystyle!

  20. I like it, it is very modern so it may not appeal to everyone but I think it is clean and professional.

  21. I like the first version better, but that is just me. Thanks for all the hard work you put into your blog.

  24. I too thought i'd clicked through onto the wrong website earlier! I like a bit of minimal, but it feels a little cooler and corporate to me, and I quite liked the more homely and softer (dare i say quiltier) feel it had before. I really like the new logo, but i think i would prefer the other photos to be bigger and more representative of the beautiful creations you make- they don't hit you in the face as you, if that makes sense. I think there could be a beautiful mid point between the 2, and the grey is really effective and fresh looking. But as always, I'm sure the content will be inspirational. Ange : )

  25. I love the new look of the blog. It is has clean and uncluttered look to it which I always like.

  26. Ha, ha, your at it again - love the new look - it's brilliant and you can easily change your quilts that are viewed in the buttons
Likewise this should give you something to easily develop into a logo / label for your quilts, patterns etc

  27. I love it - really fresh and clean.

  28. Oh deer, so lucky that I called in sick with a sore throat and had time to read this!

  29. it's better with the added circles

  30. Keep 'em coming ! I love the changes! Here less is definitely more! Would be lovely if you could fit in some sort of gallery somewhere!

  31. I find the grey a bit 'business' like in a corporate kind of way. And I'd prefer to see more of the quilts in the circles at the top, maybe try them a bit bigger. By the time you try all our suggestions it will be next month! If you like it, then stick with it - your blog is always inspirational to me!

  32. You really want honest feedback? It looks fab. Love it. Am loving the circles, loving the classy grey and loving the minimalistic look. Very me.

    ReplyDelete
  33. really love the circles and your logo is fab...but personally i'd prefer the grey a little less so...did you hear me?? less grey??!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Looks so fresh, clean, and organized. Love your logo, but the typography snob in me would use a real apostrophe and kern the "S" closer to the real apostrophe. As my old art director would say, "you can drive a truck through there!"

  35. I love it! I have to admit I really didn't like the old one, the font you used for the name really upset me! But then I am a bit weird... This is much better, lovely and bright, shows off your beautiful block and I like the grey lettering.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like it! And you can keep it fresh by changing out the pictures inside the circles from time to time.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I like the clean look. The circles are great!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I really like the top - clean and simple - elegant really. I love how three of the circles are fabric pictures and the fourth is your logo. The font is great too. Two things I think if you are willing to tinker with them:
    1. The elegance and clean lines at the top get overpowered by the solid gray you have as the background on the sides. Maybe a softer textured gray?
    2. On the right hand side - the Followers, Search, Archives, and blog list seem a little scrunched. Maybe there is a way to lay them out so they are less so?
Either way - I do like the look of it a lot. I will mimic others - it is fresh and clean, and I dig it.
You have inspired me to play around with mine some more!
    Thanks Lynne!

  41. Some templates in dynamic look give the opportunity to have buttons. For example mine has such opportunity - buttons are not only visible on the main page. But whenever you read posts, buttons are there!

  44. I really like it. I think the circles are a good idea. I think the lettering for the post title and the category titles could be a we bit smaller and in a different font.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love the addition of the framed quilt blocks in the header.

    ReplyDelete
  46. It seems that just about the time your new headers grow on me, you change them. For as long as I've been a follower, I have liked all of your headers--some more than others. I like that they all have represented what your blog is about and the style of quilts you design. However, I think that there should be one consistent element, a Lily's Quilts logo, in all of your headers.

  47. I always love a GOOD blog makeover and this one is pretty good! I actually can't remember what it looked like before :O! I love your circles!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi Lily. I have to say that I did love your previous one more. I find this a little dull - guess that just means I am a bright colour gal! Your quilts are so full of colour and you just can't see enough of them with this design or get a strong idea of the kind of work you do, which is always so beautiful. How did you get rid of the table lines around the different page titles? I am a devoted follower and hope my comments don't upset you?!?!? Karen
