Liberty of London letterbox for Ayumi, originally uploaded by Lynne @ Lilys Quilts.
Feeling pleased with myself that I had framed and finished this block and put the "penis" into a neat box so it wouldn't be a penis any more, I now fear I have made a sex toy. Which reminds me, my sister-in-law once called the nice lady in the post office a "silly dildo" thinking it meant the same as "silly billy". I wonder if I'll get all sorts of new visitors to the blog now that I've branched out into sex toys - a whole new group of quilters who found my blog too tame before. I think I'll shut up now and go back to making union jacks which never look like anything rude.
Thanks for the daily chuckle... needed it at 6am at work today :)
ReplyDeletemaybe you could do some handcuffs next, in a single girl block kinda way?
ReplyDeleteha ha ha . :) Funny stuff. Amazing block!
ReplyDeletethanks for the happy start to my day! Lovely letterbox--well done! :-)
ReplyDeleteI would have never guessed that. I didn't see the more phallic resemblance either. However, when I googled images of letter boxes, I got many which bear striking similarity to yours--just not so fancy. Clever! I still love the coffee pot lady you made as well.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks like a monument of some sort, especially with the border added. And a quick look at it yesterday, I actually thought it was a 3-dimensional object!
ReplyDeleteHonestly, I see a letterbox! Thanks for a great laugh!
ReplyDeleteLOL! What a great read to start the day. I really like the letterbox!
ReplyDeleteI'm laughing out loud by myself here!!!thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteFact is always more boring than fiction!
ReplyDeleteYou're just too hilarious! I thought it looked like a chess piece. LOL
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, your recent posts have either made milk come out my nose from laughing, made the dogs overly-excited from raucous laughs, or, the most recent, caused me to dart off to the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteTruly the funniest quilt block EVER!
And, having seen the picture of the letterbox, I can see it, truly, but the whole "sex toy" thing is just too darn funny!
Oh, how I laughed... great post!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea what it was and think that it turned out great, really lovely!
ReplyDeleteWell this penis should feel honoured to be framed and most likely put on a wall somewhere eventaully....and you never know what this whole new line could bring you.....riches I'm sure.....lol...you have a great day. and I am waiting for the Union Jack now....can't laugh anymore today...am sore all over....
ReplyDeleteI Love the three dimensional effect you so perfectly achieved
ReplyDeletethanks for the laugh! I love the block, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny. But, I still don't know what it is supposed to be. I guess our letter boxes look different here. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteBoxed up....just as it should be.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny. I love the dimentional look that the square has and I love your choice of fabrics as well. If it is a penis it is a rather pretty one. LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for the laugh Lynne, first time ever my man has wanted to know what I'm reading! (cataplexy - I read your post and collapsed into a heap) Do think you might be on to something with your "adult quilts"... (and the block is lovely btw)
ReplyDeleteTake heart...those of us writing from the US are used to looking at mailboxes that look very different from those in England. So it isn't surprising that lots of Americans didn't guess correctly!
ReplyDeleteI just read this and laughed loudly, hubby watching news then needed to know why I was laughing (add to this a few snorts!) This has amused me no end!
ReplyDeleteI didn't really think that it looked like a penis but now that you have mentioned it.... and I don't think you want to attract the kind of followers who like the words penis and letterbox in the same post! Rule Britannia and all who sail in her... x
ReplyDeleteI used to call my husband a dildo until he told me to go and look the word up in the dictionary. Ooops. I too thought it meant something much different. Oh, such innocence. I can tell that your quilt is a letterbox.
ReplyDeleteShirley.
Hope you're not trying to corrupt sweet Ayumi........great block.
ReplyDeleteFunny, that was the other thing I thought it was!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't put the word 'naughty' in you post title as I got some interest I wasn't looking for and probably some disappointed readers as I'd only spent money on fabric! I will never look at a postbox in the same way again. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI want to thank you. During the last couple of days things have been stressful and I was having a tough time finding any humor in life, then I found these posts. My cheeks hurt and I am very grateful. You have put things back in perspective. I am glad I found you.
ReplyDeleteBoring. Right. NOT! I just keep coming back for more (sex toys).
ReplyDeleteThis is marvellous! WOW!
ReplyDeleteHa ha would looove to see the Google Search Terms that land people on your blog in the next while....
ReplyDeleteThanks for making me laugh the last few days. It's amazing the difference, now that it's framed. I like Sarah's idea for a pair of handcuffs for your next block.
ReplyDeleteSomething about the lighting in this photo and the frame around the block makes it look very shrine-like to me... a phallic shrine... hmmmm
ReplyDeleteGreat job with the 3-D effect. And the humor!
Yes , now you will have all sorts of wierdos checking out your blog! Your block looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteOK. Now it looks exactly like a mailbox. It's a very pretty one too.
ReplyDeleteI'm still laughing while I write this!!! You always amaze me with your blocks!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought that was what it was when I first saw the picture. Very funny. What man wouldn't be happy that you made something to remind you of them?
ReplyDeleteA silly dildo, indeed. For what it's worth, I went to elementary school with a boy named Stephen Bilbro. His nickname, of course, was Stephen Dildo, even though none of us knew what it meant. I think about my fifth grade teacher and wonder if she knew what it meant. If so, she had a great poker face because she never once gasped or burst out laughing.
ReplyDeleteAh that is the "Watermelon" your son was talking about. Very funny indeed.....
ReplyDeleteChecking out the top 55, so glad I got to yours on my birthday! This entire exchange is a hoot and your block is beautiful. I wouldn't have noticed any resemblance without all the "help." I'm including my email address because I have no idea how to set up any of the profiles - and I don't really care, either.
