For anyone wondering what I'm talking about, I asked in yesterday's post what everyone thought I'd made in this block. Your answers had me laughing so hard I had tears running down my cheeks and my son Tom thought you'd all upset me!
So what did I make? Well, in this month in Ringo Pie (a horribly difficult online bee I foolishly agreed to sign up to last summer), we were asked by Ayumi to make a block relating to post and delivery of packages and parcels. I had in mind a selection of envelopes lined with Liberty fabrics but before I got started, Ayumi, whose month it is, posted this block which blew the idea I had in my head right out of the water.
So I decided to have a re-think and liked the idea of making an English letter box because our letter boxes are so pretty - I googled "vintage letter box" and this one came up which got me started. I was going to make it all in different reds but then it occurred to me it might be cute in Liberty fabrics so I foolishly spent hours and hours fussing about with teensy little pieces of freezer paper and snippets of Liberty fabrics, ripping more seams than I care to remember. Every single month I vow to leave this bee. It is both my favourite bee and my least favourite bee - my favourite because the challenge is always there and my least favourite because I just can't get the ideas that are in my head into a block. This month I thought I was doing OK until Nigel identified the block as a penis which makes me think that adding the little bit coming out of the top of the letter box in the picture below might not be such a good idea after all.
OMG! Hillarious! Thank you for making me smile today.
ReplyDeleteThe comments you got were so funny, can't wait to see what your next project is LOL.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could do a tiny white plaque with LETTERS on it like in the picture...but it is good for a laugh!
ReplyDelete:)))) :)))) :)))) Love it !
ReplyDeleteyep no description needed really!
ReplyDeleteha ha ha Lynne you're too funny girl!
ReplyDeleteDon't leave the bee you're all so crazy talented I love watching all the amazing blocks you make.
I think it is such a cute block and I knew right away it was a post box. But you know post boxes are really phallus-like (wasn't it Trollope who designed them originally? Maybe he had too much of something on his mind...).
ReplyDeleteI actually think if you put the pointy bit on top it will look less like a penis (less like any penis I have seen anyway!).
Aha!! Now I see it!
ReplyDelete*snigger* Sorry, it really IS a beautiful piece of piecing. But all I see is a penis, now. It will totally be obvious as a post box once it's in context but you totes need to make a willie quilt. *grins* That would be.....stellar.
ReplyDeleteHey, even this Aussie recognised your post box! (Although maybe I was just too polite to call it a penis!) Don't leave the bee- we need all the laughs you give us!
ReplyDeleteI love your dream that postboxes should be like this! Maybe you should send them your update version and they could cover them in Liberty - wouldn't last long against me and my scissors though!
ReplyDeleteI can definitely see a post box now! Thanks for clearing that up! Can't wait to see next month's (not even going to go there!). Jxo
ReplyDeleteDang, both these posts had me peeing my pants. I can't not see man parts now, no matter what you say.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Patchwork and Play...don't leave the bee...lol. I have to say; after seeing your real post box...it looks exactly like it...I just didn't know what it looked like....and still likeing the penis....it was so much fun reading everyones comment....good laugh
ReplyDeleteYou did what you had to do! The results are exactly on cue:) Good job!
ReplyDeleteIf there was a contest for best post of the week, for me, You would win! I was dying from laughter. I thought it was a clock :) Well, your vintage letter box is perfect!!
ReplyDeleteInquiring minds would like to also know the other idea as well. :-) I can totally relate to the sentiments of your bee blocks. Love them and hate them all in the same breath for the same reasons.
ReplyDeleteIf you added that little addition to the top, it would look like a sperm extractor. *L*
ReplyDeleteExactly what Sequana said.....
ReplyDeleteToo funny!
Ringo Pie is the bee I most wish I was in, and also the bee I'm most glad I'm not in. I get it!
ReplyDeleteoh my! i had no idea that anyone would ever consider leaving the ringo pie bee. i want so deeply to be in a bee like that. and your creations are a big part of that feeling. your post box is fantastic. it isn't your fault that the original box designer had penis on the mind.
ReplyDeleteLynne, I just wanted to say thank you again for your hard work to whip up this fabulous block for me. I had your letter box picture on my computer while I was cooking dinner the other day. When I saw it from the kitchen (a bit far from where my laptop is), I realized you really carefully picked colors to have a 3D effect! That's just so artistic! Love this block in every way!
ReplyDeleteRingo Pie bee is challenging. My hands are shaking and I hear my heart beating real fast as I click on 'publish' to post pictures on flickr, but it is the bee I am so glad I am in. Look at this amazing letter box you made for me! I can't imagine getting this lucky in other bees, so please don't consider leaving the bee. You are absolutely inspiring to all of us!
