Sneak Peek of My Building Blocks

Hi, I'm Marianne from The Quilting Edge and Lynne asked me to come up with something a little different for the Dresden QAL. She basically gave me the whatever inspires me talk....well I can't walk away from that. More than that, I am loving the spirit of this particular QAL. Along with her creativity and expertise, Lynne  knows just how to get us laughing. Thank you Lynne,  for asking me to be part of this great QAL

I'm a bit of a Method Junkie....meaning I love to find different ways to do things....easy ways, if possible. To me, these different methods are like building blocks. Inspiration, can come to us from many walks of life and the more methods we are comfortable with, in our quilting repertoire , the easier it is to take those multiple ideas running around our minds and translate them into quilts.

I thought I would give you a sneak peak of what I am working on.

There are probably, a number of you, still out there with curved edge fears. I thought I would put together a sort of Dresden Look Block, with only straight sewing lines.

Here's a  rough sketch of the block

You might be wondering about the safety pins in the right hand corner of the blocks. I'm going to be using an ingenious method of assembling the blocks outlined in the book Crazy Short Cut Quilts.

Rather than cutting all the pieces ahead of time, you make one cut, on all of the blocks and then sew that one particular seam togeather, before making anymore cuts.

The blocks will be joined using one of the many QAYG methods out there....I'm not quite sure which one I'll be using yet. Not knowing, until I get there, is really a large part of my process. I'll keep you posted of my progess.

  9. Brilliant - love it
When we get time I'll be helping Hobby Lass do her DB but using a freezer template piece for one third of the block - a bit like paper piecing but ironing the fabric onto the freezer paper and not sewing through the paper so the pattern can be used again for the rest of the circle
