Final chance to enter the Kaffe Fassett guessalong giveaway ...

... I am in the final stages of quilting the Diagonal Madness quilt I am making for my Mum and here it is posing with Mandy's old sewing machine which she is lending me until my birthday comes along in October.  Mine died of old age and had for some time been held together with duck tape, some blu tak and a pencil as many of the parts snapped off over the years.  I bought it when Grandpa McLaren died when I was 14 and left me a legacy of £100.  My sisters were cool and bought clothes, make-up and records (as they were called in the old days).  I was dorky and bought a sewing machine:

So anyway, to the guessalong giveaway, wonderful Gwennie moo from Celtic Fusion Fabrics has very kindly agreed to give £20 of fabric or items of your choice to the person who guesses correctly how long it will have taken me to cut, piece, occasionally rip and re-piece, measure, mend, sandwich, quilt and bind the quilt.  You can have two guesses, one on my blog and one on the Celtic Fusion fabrics blog where you can also let Gwen know what you would like to have if you win  The winner of the giveaway will be announced just as soon as this quilt is finished which should be over the next week or so.  I still have all the old guesses stored up and all the guesses will go into the mix, if more than one person is correct, I will choose my favourite of the winning comments to receive the giveaway.

  4. Yea, Grandpa McLaren! I lift my cuppa to you! He never would have guessed in his lifetime that his monatary legacy to you would be used to purchase an item (great sewing machine by the way!) that would be admired and read about thousands of miles away in Washington DC. He's there with you everytime you rev it up!!

  7. Did I buy clothes and records with Grandpa's money? I don't remember that. But I always was a bit of a cool cat so it doesn't surprise me to learn this. Anyway the quilt is looking better and better. It even makes the dining room look better.

  8. Your mummers will love her quilt to pieces - and I am guessing that you have tallied 102 hours into a masterpiece. Those colours are stunning and you inspire me completely! I can't wait to see it completed. Thanks for the chance.

  9. I'm guessing 52 hours, that's 6 to cut, 4 days to piece (8 hours each - whew!), then another 8 to quilt and only 2 to bind. And, throw in another 2 to unsew. Check my math: Make that 50 hours. Final Answer! Boy, this is hard! I cannot tell you how many time we get asked 'how long does it take to make a quilt' and we have to chuckle......probably because we don't have a clue!

    Thanks for a great contest.

  11. Hi there, new follower here, well unlike me where it took me 5 yrs to finish a quilt (in my defence children and commuting delayed it by a few years!).

Including interruptions I would say about 2 weeks?

  12. I don't know why, but I want to say 84 hours--I think you're faster than that, but that's the number stuck in my head today. :)

  13. Oooo getting fabric together and piecing those tiny squares im guessing 3 weeks and 3 days, thats assuming you have taken your time and havnt solidly been working on it, maby you have other projects on the go too, im probably way out it took me a that amount of time to make my very first ever quilted pillow (finished a few days ago on my blog) but im guessing you already have a huge fabric stash and are far more efficient and professional then me!

  20. My guess it that it took you 28 hours to make this quilt. Although I am not sure the size of this quilt and if you are a fast or slow piecing/cutter/quilter, or how many re-do's you had along the way. But this guesstimate is based on actual time spent sewing, cutting, etc. and not eating, sleeping, taking care of animals or children, or other interruptions along the way, etc. I absolutely love the colors you chose, being a bright fabric lover myself! This looks like a quilt I may have to make too :0)

  21. Did it take you 53 hours to complete this quilt? That's my guess.

  22. I'm going to have to guess 81. It's a bit like a how long is a piece of string type question! I was thinking between 50-100 and I was born in 81 so decided to go for that!

Love the fabrics from Celtic Fusion, they have such a great range. Have got my fingers crossed.
