Did you come here from Stash Manicure?

If you have come here from Stash Manicure where I am Rae Ann's guest blogger today, thank you for stopping by. Welcome to the blog of a new UK quilter and a new blogger. I was thrilled to be asked by Rae Ann to contribute to Stash Manicure. The blog is a great idea and it's fun to read contributions from so many different people with different ideas.

If you've come here first and have the time to go over to Stash Manicure, add yourself as a follower over there - you'll get new stash busting ideas every day. And leave a comment on my post so I know you've been, if only to say "you call that a stash?", "hey, I popped in but you were out" or "I spotted a typo".

And if you've taken the time to pop in here from Stash Manicure, thank you! If you fancy following or leaving a comment, I'd love that - I'm still only a quilt blogging baby and love meeting new people and making new friends in blogland.

  2. I enjoyed your stash article .. I too am a beginner with a small stash. I have a couple of friends who have given me some fabric but that's about it. Right now I have six plastic drawers with fabric .. but that's all. I'm still learning about jelly rolls and charm packs and layer cakes .. so much to learn, so little time. thanks again.

  3. I enjoyed your post on Stash Manicure. Most of my stash was inherited from my mum. Not always the right colour or pattern, I can't throw the fabric out, so I get some new bits now and then .... and yes, my stash is growing! I need to get some sewing done! Have a nice day.

  4. I loved your blog post! Mine will be there tomorrow and it feels awfully plain and not funny after reading yours! Well, I became a follower and we will see if we can get you in some serious quilting and stash building. As it will surprisingly grow, even if you don't feed it on purpose!

  5. Your stash builder post cracked me up! But watch out, once you start building one, it multiplies in the shoebox while you aren't looking, and then pretty soon you are surrounded by paper bags full of bits that you just can't seem to throw away, but have no idea what to do with, either!

  7. So I'll let you in on a secret...you don't really have to build your own stash. Just become friends with someone who has an impressive one. Then over tea say "My sister-in-law Laura really wants a ___ quilt made out of pastels, but I just don't have enough pastel scraps to make it work." (Well, it worked for me anyway.)

  8. Thanks for the post on my blog. :)

I read your post on Stash Manicure and it was great. Very funny. I started quilting last year and since then my little stack of random fabrics I had pre-quilting has grown more than 10X. Somehow it just keeps getting bigger. In fact, I added to it last night, at least a couple of yards worth. Good luck with your stash expansion project. :)

  10. Don't worry, my stash looks horrible too. Most of my stash was given to me by my mother as things the will never use...and I REALLY will never use. I am working on it! Just have to convice my husband I really really need it! Or you could try to win a bunch of fabric givaways and like me never win any of them....lol

  11. As lulubloom said, the stash keeps breeding itself - usually overnight, as far as I can tell. Probably just as well I can't see it happen. :(

  14. Heh, this stash busting is working already, last night after reading your blog post with that amazing graphic i spent 2 hours trawling my quilt book stash ( thats a whole other area of stashing!)looking for a pattern I could adapt, then spent my precious hour when baby was asleep at lunchtime cutting out fabric from the stash to make a double irish chain! Thanks!

  15. Enjoyed your stash post! I've been quilting for about a year (and blogging for much less) and cannot believe how quickly the stash builds! I think I've hit the addiction stage........

  17. You are just So darling - your blog made me lol :). I used to have a sister called Lynn but lost her to quilting late last Fall - now she never phones, never writes - barely leaves the house so severe is her obsession.

Keep writing - you are very good at it & Happy Stashing!

  18. I found you from Stash Manicure... I have no idea why I follow that blog, because I have no intention of using up all of my fabrics and think the whole idea is insane. I collect fabric to expand my "palette" for creating scrappy quilts. If I use up the last of pretty much any fabric, it's a tragedy that requires lots and lots of very dark chocolate.

Welcome to quilting, the very best form of therapy in a crazy world!

  19. Lily,
I just came over from Stash manicure and so enjoyed reading your post. I remember envying other people's stash's when I was just getting started, but have now established a nice, but reasonably sized collection of my own. Enough that I can always start a quilt, but rarely enough to finish one without a quick pop out to the store for something or other. I'm hoping never to reach that "SABLE" mark (stash accumulation beyond life expectancy). Thanks for putting a smile into my day. :)

  20. Oh my gosh. It's 10pm and I'm usually in bed long before now. I was up really early this morning because I was so nervous about somehow messing up the whole of Rae Ann's blog and I'm tired now. We've had huge political shenanigans here in the UK this week which has added to the excitement. SO goodnight to you all. Thank you thank you thank you for all your lovely comments and support and humour here and on stash manicure. I've enjoyed every single one of them and will re-read each one tomorrow and the day after and the day after that. And for those of you who have clicked to follow, thank you even more. This time last week I had three followers and felt like a mad woman talking with no-one listening. I'm probably still a mad woman but now you're all listening! This has been a good day. X

  22. I enjoy your writing style. You have wit and comedy too. :-) I also surfed over here from stash manicure. I too am building my stash. I've been trying to only buy fabrics when I need them for projects. It's not working so great but my stash isn't huge, yet. lol! I look forward to more posts from you. I'm putting you in my google reader. :-)
