Do you pack away your sewing room for Christmas? Mine's been packed away for three weeks partly because it's the dining room and partly because, if I don't pack it away, I know I wouldn't spend nearly as much time on the sofa watching soppy Christmas movies with the family. So over Christmas I spent time working on this Emily Peacock embroidery which is one of those things you can do on the sofa by the fire in front of the tv.
And then, as soon as Christmas was over and packed up and the kids were back at school, it was time to take out the new fabrics and get started on the new things. These jelly rolls came from Fat Quarter Shop and are going to go into a project for the spring issue of Fat Quarterly.
I've already started and am loving how the Denyse Schmidt, Heather Bailey and Tula Pink fabrics work together.
This pile arrived yesterday - Vintage Happy by Lori Holt for Riley Blake and will turn into a quilt for Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine - it's a quilt I've wanted to make for a while now and am pretty excited to see how it comes out.
This stash pile arrived from Amitie Fabrics in Melbourne as part of their stash club and will probably end up as extras in my Amitie Bring Me Flowers BOM.
And what about you - are you starting anything new for the new year?

ReplyDeleteI love all the fabrics. Thanks for tempting me!!
ReplyDeletemy new year's resolution is to learn how to use the simple sewing machine one of my best friends gave me nearly a year ago...
ReplyDeleteWell I'm mainly working on tidying up the bombsite that is my craft room! And planning all the sewing classes I'm going to teach this year, making examples that sort of thing! Loving your embroidery and wondering what the secret is!
ReplyDeleteLots of lovely things to kick off the New Year, what could be better!
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely projects already and we're only in the second week of January! That tapestry is looking fab - you must have done a lot of stitching whilst lolling on the sofa?!!!
ReplyDeleteAh now that would be 'telling'
ReplyDeleteThough I was lucky and got a lovely gift voucher for The Village Haberdashery and a beautiful charm pack of batiks ..... new challenges and WIP's for me the first half of 2014 I think. ;o)
very excited to see all these new quilts evolving. And also need to know what the 'secret' is - so keep stitching!
ReplyDeleteI love Vintage Happy! Like you, my sewing room is my dining room table. I actually put the machine and ironing board away for a few days...I cannot imagine it being gone for 3 weeks! Good luck with all your new projects!
ReplyDeleteI must have vintage happy. Off to look for it or it's release date.
ReplyDeleteGreat fabrics and love the way the colours pop in the first quilty picture. I've not sewn since before Christmas. It's proving hard to get motivated beyond the planning and thinking about stage!
ReplyDeleteI seem to be starting too many things - I need a proper plan!
ReplyDeleteYou have got some really beautiful projects going on! I am still trying to figure out where I am and get organized.
ReplyDeleteJust started again today after the xmas break! I am making a new quilt for 2014 from my 2 1/2 inch Liberty tana lawn squares. I am going to try and quilt-as-I-go as can't think how to manage a big quilt on my little janome!
ReplyDeleteYES! My head is full of ideas, too full, I need to put pen to paper so they stop swirling around :) Love they way that denim-look fabric sets off the brights in the square quilt you're working on.
ReplyDeleteHuh, fancy keeping us in suspenders over what the secret is! Loving that pile of Vintage Happy :o)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fabrics seem to abound at your house. I am glad you made time for the soppy movies.
ReplyDeleteOMG don't leave me hanging, what's the secret to the rodeo?!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what all that gorgeous fabric turns into!! I'm not starting anything new until I've finished my Drunkard's Path block. Or I get the background for the pointy points quilt, whichever happens first!
