Twin 1 and twin 2

Many moons ago, I had a couple of twins, twin 1 and twin 2.  Born very very early, we didn't know if they'd make it but luckily they did.  Twin 1 loves pretty dresses and sparkly things so set about making herself a skirt after a raid on my stash.

Part of me was proud that she had the uber good taste to choose Shelburne Falls.  Another part of me wanted to scream NO THAT's MINE.  But I held that part inside.  And so voila a Shelburne Falls skirt all made and isn't she proud.

Twin 2 likes to be warm and cosy which required a more sizeable raid on the stash.  Ruthlessly and recklessly she hacked into Denyse Schmidt, Pat Bravo, Lizzie House, Basic Grey, Sweetwater, Echino and many other precious pieces.  Very bravely, I never once said no (except when she grabbed some Liberty lawn and then I confess I did draw a little line in the sand).

She chose a backing made from a nice piece of Quilt Blocks yardage which I had earmarked for something else (but that's OK).  And, taking advantage of two days unexpected holiday when the school flooded, she die cut 5" squares, sewed them into 16-patches, sashed with some Timeless Treasures sketch, sewed the whole thing together with the backing, inserted a duvet inside and HEY PRESTO, brightly coloured, beautifully patchworky, homemade comfort.

  6. I think this would be one of those fulfilling moments in life. I would be just bursting with pride Lynne. My son was better at sewing than my daughter and made me a happy mother when he was first in class to get his 'sewing machine' license! It's the small things in life .....

  7. They both did an excellent job! It's so much fun to make things with kids. I have made a couple of projects with my two older boys and I love their sense of pride in the finished product.

  33. You have to be so proud! They both did such amazing jobs. You know I let my two sew but they do know there are 'touch that and die' drawers of fabric. Then there are the drawers they can ask first. And then there are the two drawers that they have free rein. Keeps it all in balance, because if I ever find them sewing with my Heather Ross I don't know who will die first - me from heart failure or the perpetrator.

  34. Two very successful raids on the stash there!

  35. You are so very lucky to have twin daughters. I'm so jealous. Don't get me wrong, I love my boys, but really wanted to have a daughter or granddaughter, but it just wasn't in the cards for me. Thankfully, I have lots of nieces to teach to sew and quilt.

    ReplyDelete
  36. AWESOME! Such a great feeling when you see your kids loving to do something that you love to do!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Aren't you the lucky mom? I think my daughter (now all grown) is allergic to a sewing machine. She never got the urge......what a bummer!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Isn't it fantastic when they get creative: they have both made such fabulous things. Both of my two have made quilts and it's so hard not to say 'no, you can't use that fabric...or that.....'

    ReplyDelete
  39. I need Twin 2's hat! They both look like real characters and what talented sewistas they are. I am just as impressed that you let them (calmly) use all your lovely fabric!

    ReplyDelete
  40. I can't wait until mine get beyond the One Direction and fighting stage!

    ReplyDelete
  41. WOW!! How clever are they!! :) x

  42. You are a seriously cool mum! I think I'm hiding this post from my girl before she gets ideas :-)

  43. Wow! You have brought your girls up well. And you were very restrained as your 'special' fabric was use. Congrats to the sewing girls on their fab makes. Di x

  46. Well done ladies, all three of you :o) Not so sure I could be so quiet if someone went near my stash! lol hugs

  49. Wonderful post! And good for you for letting proud mama take over and putting fabric hoarder mama in a corner. :-) I mean, that's what fabric's for, right?

  50. Such lovely talented girls but no real surprise that they have taken up sewing!

    ReplyDelete
  51. What a wonderful post! Your daughters are beautiful and clearly have received the creative gene from their Mum. So talented at such a young age, you must be very proud. And kudos to you for exercising restraint in the face of the stash busting that went on!! ;0)

  52. WOW, wie wundervoll. Super toll was deine Tochter da schon kann. Meine Enkelsöhne sind auch schon hochinteressiert aber auch erst 3 Jahre als, da müssen wir wohl noch ein bisschen warten.
Sag deine Tochter sie ist ein Naturtalent.
    Lieben Gruß Gisela

  53. Wow, that quilt is gorgeous. She obviously has very good taste. The skirt that was made is really pretty too. You must be so proud that your girls have such a clear sense of what they like and want and the ability and determination to make the things that they want happen.

  54. Such clever daughters - they look like they had a lot of fun. You're a better Mum than me.....I"m not sure that i would have been able to bear seeing my stash being raided. On the upside, you will obviously have some gaps that you'll have to go out and fill......!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. It is so lovely when your kids like what you are passionate about too. Now the sharing of fabric...that could be a good bartering tool for chores done in the home.

    ReplyDelete
  56. How darling. I think it would be just wonderful if one or both of my little guys would want to sew... I think they will, but will I be so patient and so selfless as to let them use my prized fabrics? I think that might require a "special" stash of fabrics specifically for their use ;)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Both their projects are beautiful. Is it time for them to start their own stash?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Beautiful job on both projects!! And I applaud your restraint! I know I don't have that in me. I hide all my "good pieces" from my 14 year old daughter. Although she has yet complete a sewing project and if anyone in this house is going to have a UFO out of "good pieces" it will be me, thank you very much! :)

  59. that is so cool. way to go girls and momma!

  60. What an awesome Mom you are!!! My four year old just recently asked me for a needle and thread. Then shortly after asked me to use my machine. Girls taking after their mamas, love!

  61. This is my dream - sewing with my girls when they are a bit older! What self control to let them select your most precious fabrics from your stash - I think I might have hidden my favourites ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  62. You are a good Mom... I'm not nearly as good at sharing when it comes to my stash:-) The next generation of quilters is going to be awesome!!!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Your girls are absolutely darling. My husband is a twin, and I take my hat off to you busy moms! Good idea to get them quilting young.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I adore this post. Did this with my own daughter (who is now grown, a quilter, and beginning to delve into garment sewing) and can't wait to start with my grandgirl...

  65. Well done twins on these great pieces and good on you mum for your generous sharing. I totally would have drawn the line at Liberty lawn if not before.
