Abakhan Projects on a Budget

In this economic climate, we are all thinking about what we can and cannot afford to make, what fabrics we can and cannot buy, what notions etc.  Well how about coming up with some ideas for projects on a budget?  THIS FEATURE IS NOW OPEN WORLDWIDE.  Here's the idea.  You head on over to Abakhan Fabrics and pick out £20 worth of anything that takes your eye.  We send it to you free, you make, photograph and write a tutorial to go on my blog.

So here's what you need to do:

1.   You can now be anywhere in the world to participate in this challenge!
2.   Leave a comment on this post telling me what you would like to make using £20 worth of anything from Abakhan.
3.   In a few days from today, I will choose a winner who will have one month to choose their booty from Abakhan, make something and write a tutorial.
4.   Don't be disheartened if I do not pick your idea this month, there are always other months.
6.   The item can be anything at all - clothing, quilted or non quilted items - anything crafty at all really.
7.   Be as original, as traditional, as creative or as simple as you like.
8.   And this month's theme is Kids - anything at all to do with kids, whether it's clothing for kids, crafting with kids or whatever else you can come up with.

  1. My son has a bday end of next month. He loves dressing up and is knight and red indian crazy. Abakhan have some faux swede and silver fabrics, which would be perfect for a costume....or two!

  2. What am amazing opportunity! I've been wanting to make my little girl some dresses for the summer (if we ever get any!).

  3. I bought my granddaughter, Lily, who was 10 earlier this month a sewing machine for her birthday and I would love for her to make a cushion cover with this wonderful cloth.

  4. I saw a canvas fabric bundle and cording that would be great to make some easy drawstring backpacks. What kid doesn't need a bag to carry all of their stuff on outings?

  5. I would love to make a play panel to hang in a child's room. For a boy, making a simple background with roads and then shapes made from "Cars and Scooters", that can be positioned with velcro in different points of the background to make up your own story. For a girl: shapes made from "Fairy Pink Lilac" for example and a "magical" background.

  6. I love the gingham fatquarter bundle add some plain red, white and green and it would make a great kids size quilt. I have a granddaughter having a birthday a quilt for her and her dolly would be wonderful.

  7. My current obsession is string quilts. This would be perfect to find fabric to make the perfect color combos!

  8. I would pair striking patterned fabric from Abakhan with plain thrifted shirt fabric to make a quilt. Something not costing the earth that would be valued for years to come.

  9. I run a Maths Quilting club at my school (Maths Quilting because I love quilting, and the Maths teacher loves patterns and rotational symmetry!) You can see some of our last projects here: https://twitter.com/greenwich_FS/status/315127014321426433/photo/1

So what I'd do is let the kids decide what to buy, and what to make. You'd get 12 mini projects, and 12 very happy teenagers!
