I'm Back!

And so I've gone quiet for about two and a half months but now I'm back.  Everything I've made in the past two and a half months has been for just one secret future project but I finally finished all the sewing for that at the end of this week and now I'm free to make whatever I want whenever I want and right now, the door to the sewing room is shut for a few days.  But that doesn't stop my mind whirring ahead and planning the next thing I would like to make.  And the next thing I would like to make is the modern medallion quilt on the front of this magazine which is currently available in the UK as well as apparently also in Barnes & Noble in the US.

The quilt was designed by Alexia Abegg and is also featured in her new book Liberty Love.

A few more of us have this quilt as their next planned project including Kerry, Mandy, Amanda (who's been sharing her progress on instragram and Flickr):

#marcellemedallion only two more borders left!

and Emily (who's been sharing her pics on instagram with the hashtag #medallionalong):

Anyone else joining us for this perfect scrap buster?  And perhaps just the excuse you were waiting for to cut into those little pieces of Liberty you've never quite been able to cut into?

  5. I've been waiting for that magazine to get mailed over here to me and I think I might try that pattern.

    Maybe.

If I can knock out a few projects before it gets here.

Can't wait to see what fabrics you pick for yours.

  6. Yay! Glad to have you back... Missed you! If I wasn't already working a project right now, I would probably join in even though I don't have any Liberty fabrics.

  7. Welcome back! I will be watching the progress avidly. I get so little sewing time that I am concentrating on (slowly) finishing up my WIPs! I still like seeing all the stuff that everyone else makes and I love this quilt when I saw it - can't wait to see yours.

  11. Welcome back! I don't think I'll be medallioning, there looks like a little too much preciseness in there for me, I'd be hairless at the end!

  26. I love the center of the medallion. I would have to use some other scraps. I don't have ANY pieces of Liberty!!

  27. Welcome back :) I've seen bits and pieces of that book online and it looks like it was beautifully shot and might have some interesting things to make as well which is just a bonus. The medallion quilt looks like a great scrap project.

  28. Medallion(my favorite) and scrappy(love, love, love) together with a modern spin is definitely in my future. I have too many projects going already to quilt this along with you, but am very excited to follow the progress of each of you participating. That center medallion is so gorgeous that I just might be tempted to procrastinate on my other projects to make one.

  29. It is beautiful. But it looks super hard. I love it.

  30. I just had a thought after seeing the chevron border in the quilt on the magazine cover. Maybe, I can make a quilt like this using mostly "cheater" prints. Wouldn't it be fun searching for the fabrics?

  31. I love medallion quilts. I totally want to make this one! But first, the spools quilt from Alexia's book. Just so I can collect Liberty charms :)

  32. Oh man, I love this quilt and medallion quilts, in general. There is a great article about Gwen Marston in the latest AQS magazine with a funky string medallion pattern. I want to make Alexia's version one day, but first her spool quilt. Just so I can collect Liberty charms :)
