Abakhan Projects on a Budget

In this economic climate, we are all thinking about what we can and cannot afford to make, what fabrics we can and cannot buy, what notions etc.  Well how about coming up with some ideas for projects on a budget?  THIS FEATURE IS NOW OPEN WORLDWIDE.  Here's the idea.  You head on over to Abakhan Fabrics and pick out £20 worth of anything that takes your eye.  We send it to you free, you make, photograph and write a tutorial to go on my blog.
So here's what you need to do:

1.   You can now be anywhere in the world to participate in this challenge!
2.   Leave a comment on this post telling me what you would like to make using £20 worth of anything from Abakhan.
3.   In a few days from today, I will choose a winner who will have one month to choose their booty from Abakhan, make something and write a tutorial.
4.   Don't be disheartened if I do not pick your idea this month, there are always other months.
6.   The item can be anything at all - clothing, quilted or non quilted items - anything crafty at all really.
7.   Be as original, as traditional, as creative or as simple as you like.
8.   And this month's theme is warm and cosy.

  1. I would make guest slippers - so that my guests can be warm on their feet while visiting. And I won't have to wash the floors everytime someone wears dirty shoes inside...

  2. I would make a lush quilt with patterns designed by my 3 children so that we could snuggle up on the sofa together for cosy afternoons in. We could also lie it on the floor to play games on or throw it over the dining chairs and make a den!
Whichever we chose it would be perfect and a super heirloom of the future with lots of stories to tell.... :)

  3. I would make this ( http://myquiltdiet.blogspot.com/2012/12/chrisann-awesome-kindergarten-teachers.html) quilt with solids and an a super soft squishy minky back.

  4. I would take 2 metres of this Print Anti Pil Micro Fleece Mini Dot French Navy to make a cuddly infinity scarf!

  5. Hi, I would so use the £20.00 to make this free pattern (http://artgalleryfabrics.typepad.com/weblog/2012/08/fat-quarter-gang-gradiance-bed-runner-by-quilt-dad.html) courtesy of John Q. Adams and Art Gallery Fabrics which is so totally gorgoeus. I wouldn't use the same colours or patterns but using his pattern I would make a step-by-step tutorial as I make this and show people that you can make something this gorgeous using less expensive fabrics.

  6. Hmm, well I think I would have to use the £20 on some ecru cuddle fleece for jammy bottoms, with some black jersey knit for the jammy top, and some 25mm double face satin ribbon in fuschia to hold the jammy bottoms up

  7. I've picked out two fleece prints and a PVC fabric to make a warm and cozy blanket for sitting on (and wrapping up in) at the shore! I frequently have beach bonfires at the lovely Puget Sound beach just down the bluffs from my house, but I need something that's waterproof on the bottom and warm&cozy on top for sitting on the sand! Plus, I priced it out - 3 fabrics plus thread for sewing them still leaves me with a bit leftover that I'd splurge on some fun acrylic yarn in the same color, to knit a market tote bag for carrying the blanket! And some pompoms for the corners of the blanket. ;)

  9. Love the look of those fabrics in your picture, with a selection of them I would make a simple Cosy and Warm patchwork quilt, with fluffy 100% wool batting.

  10. So does this mean they are going to start shipping worldwide, I live in Greece and they have some great stuff that I would buy. For this challenge I would like to make a shower curtain with their showerproof fabric and curtain making supplies that would match my kids bedroom decor but the kicker part of the tutorial is how to make the curtain hold our towels to keep them warm and dry, because right now we have no where to hang them.

  11. I already have the front fabric--a blue & white paisley decorator print--to make a duvet cover for my master bedroom, but still need the backing fabric. The pale blue sheeting would be perfect.

  12. Love gingham, and love using it for my little girl.. I would make a quilted tote bag as well as a notebook cover, and crayon/pencil roll for her and if there was enough material a quilted seat cushion as she likes to attend the little childrens classes we have at our local library but hates the hard wooden chairs and I am always scrambling to find something soft for her to sit on.

  13. I would like the £20 to give me the opportunity to make my first patchwork quilt please. It will begin life as a lap quilt to snuggle up under whilst Im hand sewing and over time get bigger and bigger as I add memories to it, eventually an heirloom to pass down to my grandchildren :) xx

  18. I'd be aiming into the fleece to make a set of cuddly pj's. I've had to turn the heating down (costs too much) and these would really help.

  19. I'd make a Nerf Gun target...... Save being shot at. The target would have shadow outlines of animals and would allow the Nerf gun Velcro heads to stick to it. Much better than finding them stuck to cushions and curtains! The back would have a circular target with numbers.... To make it reversible.
