Here is a little lap quilt I made last week. Quick and simple. I cut the 2 1/2" strips, the 2 1/2" squares and the dresden leaves using Sizzix dies. This speeds up the process massively. I spread the leaves evenly around the central circles by drawing a template (on Touchdraw) which I printed out onto paper and sat behind the Kona snow I used as a background. I fused the leaves and circles on using Pellon 800 which is a new fusbile for me. I ordered a whole bolt of it on ebay and have taken some time to get to grips with it. Anyone out there used it and have some top tips for me?!
The leaves are raw edge fused and then blanket stitched down using an Aurifil 28wt 2730 (which is a kind of deep peacock blue). I wanted a really heavy thread for this because the paler leaves were merging into the background so I wanted to define the edges clearly, like drawing around them with a marker pen. And I once again quilted with a cream Aurifil 50wt so that the quilt had texture but the lines didn't stand out against the flowers.

My pathetic attempt at coming up with a name for this quilt was "Daisy Quilt" and I know you always come up with absolutely brilliant names so please throw some at me! So far the out and out front runner for names is Helen Archie the Wonder Dog's suggestion of Granny's Best China as the flowers remind her of patterns on China plates.
Such a lovely quilt..So fresh!
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous little quilt! I love your fabric choices, especially the blue centre and squares.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely quilt! Hazy Daisy?
ReplyDeleteWell Done, you make it look so easy.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is stunning! The colors, the curves, the white space, the simple quilting. That you made it in one week - wow.
ReplyDeleteYou make it sound so easy! It's a beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteOopsadaisy? Hehe
ReplyDeleteI don't have any name suggestions but do want to say that I love the way it turned out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous quilt, I love the colours and also the name, what else would you have called it? I haven't used Pellon 800 - how does it compare to Bondaweb which I usually use for fusing fabrics?
ReplyDeleteLove love love! This is one of the reasons I want to upgrade my sewing machine - I would love to have a machine blanket stitch and other decorative edging stitches to do justice to this kind of lovely machine applique. Maybe Santa will be feeling generous this year!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! The delicate patterns on the white background remind me of Granny's best china but I'm not sure it works as a name for a quilt! I don't tend to name my quilts so I'm really, really bad at thinking of quilt names. Or maybe that statement should be the other way round...
ReplyDeleteI've not used (or seen) Pellon 800 before so I'll be popping back to read the comments and check for top tips!
No tips on using Pellon 800 and no name ideas either but simply had to tell you how great the quilt looks :)
Beautiful quilt! I love the quilting too. Do you mark the lines before sewing or do you use some kind of guide. They look so perfectly straight!
ReplyDeleteUm, reminds me of Wedgewood with all the blue, and the petals are kind of like wedges... err, yeah, I'm not the best at naming quilts either ;o)
ReplyDeleteLove this quilt. Reminds me of the flowers on a VERY old show and would call it "Laugh In".
ReplyDeleteMore Tilda dreaminess, love the vintage look of it.
ReplyDeleteI love the effect the little blue squares have....they are like pegs in a garden holding the flowers up so they can see the sun. It also reminds me of the game you play with daisys.."He loves me, he loves me not..." That would make a cute name....if a petal or two were out of place.....or maybe just "He loves me" because you didn't have to play the game.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely. What is your source for the 28wt threads?
ReplyDeleteLove everything. Now all I have to do is clear up my room, cut some fabric and get with it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely quilt and it sounds like it came together quickly.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt. Absolutely beautiful. Great design, fabrics, colors and quilting.

It's fabulous.....I love the idea of getting ideas for naming your quilts from your "imaginary friends". Amazing what real and fabulous names those imaginary friends can come up with. I'm really going to have to start doing that.
ReplyDeleteAnd last but not least...YOU BOUGHT A WHOLE BOLT OF SOMETHING!!!!!!!
Love it Lynne - I'd call it Lazy Daisy if it was mine I think - I love the method you used too - the blue stitching really makes it!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt and I love the name you've chosen.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt and the quilting really finishes it off. I am rubbish at naming quilts, how about Daisy Chain but I quite like a previous suggestion "he loves me he loves me not" Hugs x
ReplyDeleteWhat a darling quilt Lynne!! Love the quilting you did on it..perfect!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, reminds me of pretty little doilies, Daisy Doilies!
ReplyDeleteI'm just thinking "ol' blue eyes" but I have had a looooong day x
ReplyDeleteAnother great quilt!!!! Love!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Quilt! Great job!
ReplyDeleteLove the Granny's Best China name! Gorgeous quilt. Simple and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGranny's Best China is an excellent name for such a dainty quilt. Di x
ReplyDeleteBrill quilt, brill name. You can tell I'm not a writer.
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt! How about "Fresh as a Daisy!"?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing.
ReplyDeleteFabulous! Such great designs you always have! Also, I like 'Bleuets' (Cornflowers) for the name, since my grannie's best china was completely white! Also, (I know, I say this a lot) I'm curious: did you have any 'issues' running the 28g Aurifil through your machine?
ReplyDeleteHazle
Daisy quilt is perfect! Love the color and design
ReplyDeleteGranny's Best China... so suitable... Love the quilt..
