Every time I make a Union Jack something or other, I imagine it will be my last.  I'm not sure why because I love them so much.  I am not some crazed patriot (although this was a great summer for the UK, what with the Jubilee and the Olympics) but I love the design of the Union Jack and I think it works well in so many fabrics.

Having made it in many different fabrics, I think floral prints and non geometric prints work really well.  So when I spotted Pat Bravo's upcoming line Rock n Romance, I knew the prints would work up really well into Union Jacks.  To me this line is Liberty meets punk rock.  I love the colours and the designs and I confess that I love that the palette is limited so that even I can make sense of it.

So this is going to be a BIG TRIPLE JACK quilt.  Three BIG JACKs sitting on top of one another to make a single bed sized quilt - 70" x 90" or thereabouts.  And I wondered if you fancied making this quilt along with me?  I was going to call it a JACKALONG but honestly that sounds a bit rude to me so I'm thinking of calling it a JACKATTACK instead.  Rather than sewing along, we'll be attacking this pattern together.

If you're interested in making this BIG TRIPLE JACK quilt, leave a comment to let me know, start thinking about what fabrics you might choose.  And in short order, I will make a button and we can hop on over to my Flickr group and start thinking about what fabrics might work in this quilt as well as introducing ourselves and finding out who else is JACKATTACKING along too.

  3. This looks fun and fabulous!

  4. Very, very tempted. Even with just one 'block' it would be a nice throw. I even know the colour scheme I would use. Ok, while writing this comment I've convinced myself.

  9. I love those fabrics and think they will be absolutely perfect. The top set espesh.
I would like to sew along but it will have to be from stash fabrics for me atm, so I will wait and see if I have enough to join in.
So glad to have you back from your holidays. We were all missing you lots.

  17. You know that I love the Union Jack design, so I think a single bed sized Triple Jack quilt would be great! If time permits, and I will try my best to make time, I'm all in to attack the Jack with you. I also love Pat Bravo's fabrics and they are carried in my local fabric store, so I'll have to check them out to see what's currently available.

I'm excited to see what you and others come up with.

By the way, the Union Jack design in the Olympics Closing Ceremony was very cool.

  21. A three block quilt? I love it! (and you had me giggling at Jackalong - it does sound a bit questionable)

  25. Love Union Jacks - have fabric all ready to make your pillow when I get home from holidays so these gigantic Jacks are a must, what fun :D

  26. hi Lynne, I am quite keen as I do love a Union Jack. What pattern will you use? I've made a couple of much smaller UJ's from the Victory Gardens pattern. Would love to have a go - I've got quite a few WIP's on the go, so what's one more... Fabricwise - will have a think - the Pat Bravos are very gorgeous, but not my usual colours. Let the Jack Attack begin!! and I'll trot slowly along. Cat.

  27. Cracking up at "Jackalong"! I can't wait to see how the quilt turns out. I love the sort color palette for the union jacks. I really want to do this, but I can't since I am packing for our move, but I'll be watching!

  28. I would love to be involved

  29. ooo. I can't wait to see this! I think it will be fantastic. (you know me. Fellow-sucker for Union Jack's.)

  30. I think my mate Tracy is up for the challenge too - she's completely new to sewing, let alone quilting, but her husband is English and she loves a Union Jack. And I won't let her have the latest UJ cushion I've made (well, the front is made, I haven't even stitched a back or stuffed it yet). She doesn't have a blog, but she has one photo on instagram. She's coming over for some wonky-star lessons on Thursday, so hopefully she'll say a definite yes then ... Cat.

  31. My daughter would very much like to have a Jack for her bed. I would like to do it in purple and grey (the colors of her room), but she would much rather have a traditional red, white, and blue Jack. My stash is overflowing and I'm trying not to buy any more, so I'm likely to pull all my fabrics from there.

  32. This sounds great. I love the design so sign me up. Now to decide what colours to use.

  33. I SO want to do this. I have some projects I must complete before I can, but if I hurry ... maybe ...

  34. Brilliant idea and good timing for me as one work in progress just finished. I have my fabrics in a box ready. I have enough for the quilt and a cushion in each (I hope). I have added your button to my blog. When do we start? Janette
