Abakhan Fabrics and Lily's Quilts bring you "Projects on a Budget"

In this economic climate, we are all thinking about what we can and cannot afford to make, what fabrics we can and cannot buy, what notions etc.  Well how about coming up with some ideas for projects on a budget?

Lilys Quilts
<div align="center"><a href="http://lilysquilts.blogspot.co.uk/" title="Lilys Quilts"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVvtOcwe0ilnW5qkjycsl8BGrT-NJin8CiUQJYSLpAhU0DjnE4s-7Ts1q5UT9mzWlXvpP7RDbp5X0j7N_uxfK71nUAi2P6gTZ_47T0YN8oRoNS3PK53J4uJ6YIdzwKmVg_1Gt8bwQDhzw0/s253/Untitled+Drawing+21.png" alt="Lilys Quilts" style="border:none;" /></a></div>

Here's the idea.  You head on over to Abakhan Fabrics and pick out £20 worth of anything that takes your eye.  We send it to you free, you make, photograph and write a tutorial to go on my blog.  And of course there's a button.  I do love a button.

So here's what you need to do:

1.   You need to be in the UK (although we may be expanding this feature beyond the UK in time).
2.   Leave a comment on this post telling me what you would like to make using £20 worth of anything from Abakhan.  eg. I would like to make a Jubilee tea cosy or I would like to make a patchwork Prince Philip.
3.   In three days from today, we will choose a winner who will have one month to choose their booty from Abakhan, make something and write a tutorial.  So for this first item, we will be hoping to schedule a post by end June (sooner if you're ready sooner!).
4.   Will and I are planning on this being a monthly feature so don't be disheartened if we do not pick your idea this month, there are always other months.
6.   The item can be anything at all - clothing, quilted or non quilted items - anything crafty at all really.
7.   Be as original, as traditional, as creative or as simple as you like.
8.   And can you guess this month's theme?  It's the Jubilee of course!

  1. I belong to a choir and we have several concerts this year and have decided to wear red, white and blue in honour of the Jubilee. I'd love to get some red, white and blue fabric to make a dress or a shirt to wear for the concerts.

  9. I would love to make little bags for my daughters nursery class in the jubilee colours to carry all their bits and pieces when they are out and about.

  10. I would make bunting themed quilt for Siblings Together, I have lots of dotty fabrics that woud look great on a sky coloured whole cloth, raw edge appliqué me thinks. Not jubilee colours, but the street parties always look so cheerful with bunting.

  13. There is an Abakhan at the end of our road in Riga, does that mean I can join in? I would love to make a patriotic wine bottle holder for a Jubilee picnic! I'll be in the UK next week too, if you can't swing it for Latvia :)

  14. Love this idea, Lynne! Since I'm not in the UK, I'll just be watching from the sidelines for now, but if you do go global, I'd love to participate.

  17. This doesn't have anything to do with free fabric but I'm making a London 2012 quilt with the jubilee and olympics in mind. Fun.

  18. I would love to make a red white and blue frock far a small girl I know. I do not have one of my own, but I know one I might be able to borrow! If I ask nicely. However, I have to confess, I could probably make three frocks from £20 of Abakhan fabric! At least for the size of girl in my head!
