Free piecing with Oakshott

In the bee I am in called "Free Bee' where last month I made that power station coling tower block (still wondering what I was thinking really), Krista Spotted Stone asked for us to make a fan of wedges using Sherri Lynn Woods' awesomeness in design in her tutorial which can be found here. My current favourite Oakshott colours are the rich inky pinks and purples which I mixed with some greys and a couple of pops of yellow.

I say a couple, a couple is two and I used three, so I guess I meant a threeple. I'm not sure I'm done with this yet. It's as big as Krista asked for but I don't think I can stop - it's very soothing doing this piecing so I think I might add a few more strips on before I send it off to her. She asked us not to trim the edges and that is killing me - I feel like I'm walking round with a badly cut fringe....a few hours later...this thing keeps on growing.  I need to stop now before it takes over the whole sewing room...

  1. It must be so difficult for a traditional quilter to try not to do things, like trimming and not cutting to exact measurements.

    Those colours are heavenly.

  2. those oakshotts are so lovely for improv piecing - something about the subtle colours I think. I made a wonky improv quilt with them last year, and it was so much fun

  3. Love it, I’m working on the ‘wave’ and not cutting the edges feels like I’m wearing my t-shirt inside out!

  6. That would be hard to do....but I bet it will give her more consistency in the blocks when she goes to put them all together.

The colors are beautiful...but what else would they be?

  8. it's that old eye for colour again, the yellow is brilliant with purple. So don't gasp in horror at my purple jumper and yellow track suit bottoms next time you see me.

  11. It's gorgeous. Very cool. I love how improv piecing frees us up to do things we wouldn't normally try. However, not trimming the ends would drive me bananas, too.

  14. Looking good. I'd like Oakshott a whole lot more if they let you buy by the fQ or do your own F8th or FQ bundle rather than have to stick with their selections.

  15. Love those little yellow pieces. And you're doing something which I wouldn't dare to even start (too difficult). Can't wait how your work will go on.

  21. Hi! That looks so fantastic! The beginning is like my wonky circles for the 'Parasols' mini quilt but I didn't think that I could change the way and continue. I'm sure it's difficult to stop - would make a great long wall quilt, too!
