My long suffering Welsh husband is away this morning but may just have a minute to pop into the blog and so I will just take a minute to wish him a happy birthday. Your presents are waiting for you at home. XXX
And in other news, I have been mixing and matching some charm squares of Mark Cesarik's new line for Freespirit Fabrics, Cosmic Burst, trying to decide what to mix them with and what to make with them. Here are the pinks, chartreuses, oranges and purples playing with some Oakshott shot cottons.
That grey background they're on is difficult to photograph and you really have to see it in person to get how beautiful it is. It is an Oakshott shot cotton called (I think) Thistle or Lavender or Heather or something like that and is lavender shot with a kind of pale grey/green. In the photo below, you can kind of get a feel for the mix of the colours catching the light. It is my current fave Oakshott colour and mixes fabulously with the Cosmic Burst although the top photo doesn't really show it off well.
So how about throwing my some fun suggestions for what I might make with this mix.

I'm sure it will be gorgeous whatever you make. Mixing it with shot cottons sounds perfect. Wish I had thought of it. I used my charms all together I'll admit. They told me they didn't want to separated. Oh and they also told me they need more friends...oh for April.
ReplyDeleteOh that colour shot 'heather' fabric is to die for (mopping up dribbles as I type)
ReplyDeleteCharms - oh well, not something I've worked with, but if I come up with anything I'll email it to you

Man Happy birthday!
Those are gorgeous! I have a gadzillion thoughts in my head. A scrappy quilt with no sashing, or 2-color blocks with sashing (orange and green, purple and pink, remix), or big squares, or.... This is why I have trouble doing anything. I can't decide LOL.
ReplyDeleteHey, what about a rainbow color scheme on the diagonal. It might look too 'Amish', tho. love the colors. very warm
ReplyDeleteJust had to wish "Lily's Sweet Welsh Husband" happy birthday
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday LSWH! Love your fabric, the colours are fabulous! I'm right out of ideas (again!) and the only things I can think of are Winding Ways or Drunkard's Path...or maybe a log cabin variation?
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to the hubby, hope you had a good day and will have a lovely birthday when he gets home. Do love that oakshott...
ReplyDeleteGranny squares seem to be in at the moment or possibly a disappearing 16 patch??
ReplyDeleteI think these fabrics would look great in Elizabeth Hartman's Sparkle Punch quilt, which can be found here--> http://www.ohfransson.com/oh_fransson/2012/01/sparkle-punch-quilt-along.html
ReplyDeleteHave you seen FITF converging corners quilt? could be awesome with all that negative space of the heather/lavender/oakshott ...

ReplyDeletelooking lovely - I've just spent the day at a workshop making the Oakshott City Lights quilt kit (well, I managed 44 blocks, anotheR 20 to go) - and the fabrics are gorgeous - I kept looking at them and thinking they'd be stunning as clothing too!
ReplyDeleteI think Sarah @ pings and needles suggestion of the converging corners Quilt is good - can't wait to see what you make.
Happy Birthday Mr G!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll think of something awesome for the fabrics x
How about a cool mod table runner? Those are lovely fabrics together!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking they would make a great bright wallhanging to liven up your space.
ReplyDeleteThose are nice bold colors! You will probably need to combine them with some light colors to get a nice contrast. Whatever you make will be very cheerful!
