Each month, Michael Oakshott and I choose an Oakshott bundle and challenge you to come up with some kind of wonderful idea of what you would make with it.  This month, we've decided to off the "Water" F8 bundle.

To be in with a chance of playing with these beautiful fabrics, here's what you need to do:
  • Leave a comment letting me know what you would make with these fabrics.  Be specific about your idea.  We won't pick someone who  says "I want to make a quilt" but might pick someone who says "I have in mind a quilt with ohio star blocks and I would mix the Oakshotts with low volume text prints".
  • After a few days, we will pick our favourite project suggestion and that person will be sent the Water F8 pack.
  • All we ask of you is that you write a guest post for this blog containing photos of the finished item and a tutorial showing us how you made it within one month of receipt of the Oakshotts.
And if you don't get picked this month, don't worry, there will be another great bundle on offer next month so stay tuned for a new chance each month.

  1. I have the Aeroplane bag pattern from Sew Sweetness just waiting for some great fabric. This would be a great "manly" version for my husband that still coordinates with my weekender bag! I've never tried Oakshotts but the texture is beautiful!

  2. Ooh, that bundle is just beautiful!

  3. A beautiful bundle would make a great cushion, maybe like in the latest fat quarterly or even with hst's! And a little quilting to finish it all off?

  4. What a beautiful color palette - it reminds me of sea & sky! I recently received a Go! Cutter for my birthday. I want to additionally purchase a drunkard's path die. From these fabrics I would make a focal wall hanging for our family room with fractured and superimposed circles from the drunkard's path blocks. I do not have a blog of my own, but feel with your guidance could fulfill the requirement of a guest post of the project made from winning the giveaway. Thanks for a chance to win, Beth in AL

  5. I want to sew a lovely house with at least 4 bedrooms, a fabric garden and fabric cats and dogs. Please pick me.

  6. Loving these blues. I just dyed some fabrics naturally in indigo with Maura Ambrose of Folk Fibers. I think I would take this bundle, add it to the naturally dyed and incorporate it into a big lonestar quilt. I have always wanted to make one. I think the graduation of blues would be perfect!

  7. I would definitely make a HST quilt with these. I would use assorted low-volume prints and these beautiful Oakshotts and then I would hand quilt it (long stitch style)with various coordinating perle cottons!

  8. I would make a quilt with a neutral colored base and use strips of the oakshotts on top of the base fabric in a 3-dimensional treatment. This will create a great texture, which will be heightened by the sheen of the oakshotts. This design will really showcase the shot nature of the cottons, as the colors will change with the turns and folds of the fabric.

  9. Oh! The cool watery colors of this bundle would be PERFECT for an original design I've been wanting to sew up for some time now, inspired by childhood summers at my paternal grandmother's house: a simple repeated abstract block that -- in the right fabrics -- will conjure up pine trees and the ocean and foggy early mornings in coastal Maine. I'd mix these colors with some retro-look prints, and hand-quilt it as a gift for my parents, who both have a big milestone birthday coming up next year. No chance I'll get a whole quilt done in a month, but I could start with a pillow block and tutorial.

  10. Man, I love Oakshotts. So a while ago, I did this mini quilt with the Autumn F8 pack (http://www.play-crafts.com/blog/bloggers-quilt-festival-entry-2/) and I'd love to expand it and do another element. So that one would be earth, and this one could be water! Similar concept with the improv curves and organic quilting, but different composition that was more reminiscent of water.

  11. I'd make a quilted pouch using a 'tile quilt revival' inspired appliqué design (floral damask, perhaps?). It would be so fresh for the summertime -- I'm picturing the perfect sandfree accessory to throw in the beach bag ;)

  12. I'd love to do an English Paper Pieced pillow cover with this, with hand quilting and embroider, I think a quote about creativity, around the outside edge... beautiful!

  13. I would love to do a paper-pieced hexagon pillow cover with these, graduating the blues through to greens across the front. And some lovely subtle hand quilting, just to highlight the texture and the sheen of the fabric, without taking anything away from their 'wonderfulness'. Such calming, stormy sea-side colours. Beautiful.

  14. I designed a barn quilt I want to translate into a larger sized quilt. I used overlapping squares set in a grid in graduated colors of blue. I have made a small ten inch version in a rainbow of hand dyed fabrics.

  15. I'd make a couple of giant pillows/cushions that would be a perfect colour match for my sister-in-laws bedroom.

To make the most of the blues they would be machine pieced water drops (similar to the shape for EPP Clams) but bigger and machine peiceable...

  16. I'm a fan of Oakshott weaves, the colours and feel, and would use these blues alongside a white solid to create a classic hourglass baby boy quilt.

  17. I have been thinking to make a quilt for my eldest son for a loooong while. I would use this gorgeous bundle to incorporate with my other fabrics using the pattern, Chopsticks, of Jaybird.

  18. I would love to make a lapquilt playing with improved curves and fishes. It would perfecly fit to those Colors!

  19. I would love to make a wall hanging with improv pieced curves to mimic the ocean. Oakshotts would be perfect for depicting the sea! Then I would densely quilt it with different weight Aurifil threads in different colors.

  20. I have two little grandsons (one just brand new) and since they will be sharing a bedroom I would love to make them a wall hanging - perhaps a fleet of cars, trucks, boats, trains. Ah, yes, a road well travelled beside a harbour... My mind is working.

  21. I would love to make a scattered flying geese quilt I have in mind, with white text prints, to mimic the sky. ;)

  22. I would like to make a set of pillows for a coworker who is also a dear friend. She just broke a bone in her foot and she can't come over to quilt! She broke a bone in her "sewing foot"!!! The pillows will be for her so she can rest her foot.
I would love to do a beach colour scheme with some bright white. The design will be one of my own patterns: just look at my avatar!
Thank you very much for this chance!

  23. My Daughter is getting married in October and I am going to sew the Chuppah. We have decided to use a beautiful white on white fabric with Oakshott cottons for colour accents which will look amazing in the midday sunshine.

  24. I love reading all the suggestions for these posts - that stack of fabric is beautiful and I can't wait to see what some lucky person makes!

  25. Hummmmm....is it a fat quarter bundle? What are the sizes of the cuts? I would sew a skirt or simple summer shift dress if there was enough fabric. It would be an interesting challenge to see if it could be done out of a fat quarter bundle.

  26. I have at least 25 "blue & white" themed exchange blocks, where the blue prints in these blocks vary from blue green to blue violet and the block sizes vary from 3" to 16". After seeing your finished Gypsy Wife BOM quilt, I'm now inspired to put these together into a quilt using various Seminole pieced sashings. The solid colors in this Oakshott "Water" fat eights bundle would just be perfect for this.

  27. Ooh I love those colors, I would add an off-white background fabric and make a "storm at sea" quilt, the colors are just so perfect for that!

  28. I would like to make a sampler of a variety of hand quilted filler-designs. The colors looks so good together! The blocks would be about 6" square and joined together a sampler stitch quilt. Oakshott is so wonderful to hand quilt!

  29. I would love to make a chevron quilt out of diamonds that made the colours look like water. Beautiful collection!

  30. I would make an underwater seascape qut for my daughter. She's 18 soon and adores all things aquatic, so it would make a perfect heirloom gift for her. The background would be sinuous waves of the gorgeous blues and greens of the Oakshot with bright coloured fish and seahorses made from stash fabrics, with embroidery and beads to add sparkle.
