Corset Making

The techical challenge of constucting corsets holds a lot of appeal for me so, when Lynne asked for a volunteer to review a new Corsetey book, I jumped at the chance.

I absolutely wasn't disappointed.  Corset Making is perfect for beginners and probably experienced corset-makers as well.

Julia Bremble shares a lot of handy tips that she has gained from experience, some of which I have never seen elsewhere but which will give a much more expert finish, even for the beginner. There are detailed photos of the construction process.

The book is easy to read and well-written, with a good deal of humour. Lovely photos are interspersed through the book.

The fitting section is specialised to corset making and includes techniques that I've not seen in other types of fitting.

There are several video tutorials demonstrating some of the more complex, less intuitive techniques. The practical section at the end with the step-by-step instructions will help the beginner navigate the complex constuction process. Overall, this book makes corset-making acheivable by anyone! I've been inspired to make a corset with the supplies I rashly ordered last year before becoming overwhelmed. If you want to check up on me and see my progress please visit at Owl Quilting.

  1. How pricey is it to get in all the supplies? Do you have to have a mannequin / assistant for the fitting parts? Looks awesome :-)

  2. I'd love to try to construct a corset, just for the experience and to have something totally unique and sexy. There's those days of feeling completely dowdy that a corset could certainly banish.
I'mm looking forward to your start so I'm popping over to follow you ;D
