I've never understood the happy returns thing either, right up there with auld Lang syne. Did you make your birthday card on the touch draw app?? (Yes I still need another reason to buy it!)
That your birthday may happily return many times i.e. may you live happily, year after year, forever ? (well... for a long time anyhow :-)
