Amitie BOM - phew, I'm up to date

Having started this BOM on the sewing machine, I soon gave up and conceded defeat - these fiddly little curved pieces really need to be hand sewn.  With two days to spare, I am up to date as I have all seven circles pieced and inset into their grey dotty surrounds.  I also have a hole in the middle finger on my right hand - I really need to learn to use a thimble.  Here are my favourite six of the seven circles - I have also used this BOM as a chance to play with fabrics, patterns and colours.  This really makes no sense as a lot of the price of the BOM is in the wonderful fabrics Amitie send us but I figure I can always use those in future projects.  For the moment, I seem to be drawn to bright pink and chartreuse for this quilt.  Be honest, does it look wonderful or a bit too much?

  1. well of course it looks wonderful. I do think that I would off set these blocks with a solid or solid like fabric so that your eye has a place to rest...but I'm not sure how you are putting these all together.

I think my favorite one is the bottom middle!

  2. wowza Lynne, these are fabtastic ... I thought I liked the bottom row middle one best but now I'm being steadily seduced by all of them ... Lovely work (one day I'll take on curves for real!)

  3. wow, lynne, youre blocks look awesome! you're really 'courageous' to use to use all those strong, bold fabrics together with the gorgeous dots - and i mean it in the most positive way! {'cause i'm a chicken when it comes to that}. I love how the pinks and others sparkle...!

p.s. in case you haven't seen my answer on flickr: if you want me to make you a header & help with your blog layout, just mail me, i'll happily assist you!

  4. They are all wonderful Lynne, but I love the symmetry and color contrast of the top middle one the best of all! I'm sure you are learning a lot about color, value and design by using your own fabric choices too!

  5. They are fantastic....that chartreuse always takes the sweetness out of the pink
(sweet is not my thing)....making it all wonderful. Is it to much??? No way!

  6. I think they all look wonderful, I'm like you I have to change something, I never keep to the original.
Absolutely definitely not too much, they are all fabulous.

  7. For hand sewing I use little plastic sticker things- "Needle Grip it" more traction on the needle and less blood!

  8. definitely wonderful! I can't get along with thimbles but like those stick on circles - they stay on really well and save you no end of pain!

  9. I'm usually into pastels myself ;) but these don't look too much at all, the grey tones down the brights. They look amazing!! i really like that you're using your own fabrics, I've always been a little turned off BOMs because they take away the fabric choice. I use the stick on circles or even a bandaid helps.

  11. These look so cool--but then I like crazy print combos. I think the pinks really offset the grays well too.

A little bit too much? More like a lot too much, are people's comments just polite?

  14. The more pink and green you add the better it will be. I think they look great. You are doing a grand job. I am not being polite but telling the truth.

  16. I am doing this BOM as well, and it is wonderful to see how other people are putting the colours together. I am finding it a bit challenging, since I decided to piece it by hand with paper piecing, but I trust that Jennifer knows what she is doing!

  18. Now Chartreuse is named after the green liqueur that the chartreuse monks make up in the chartreuse mountains that I can see from my bed that has the fab Penguin quilt on. Now how's that for a coincidence?

  19. Hi - trust me the finished quilt is amazing and wonderful - I have held it in store as Amitie is my not so local but fav place to get fabrics.

There is only one rule that I like with quilts - 10 fabrics are wrong and 101 are about right - else they are nana quilts - now that will draw some wroth of quilters.

Alakazam made me do it - honest...
