My week on Instagram

This week on Instagram has been all about thread, fabric and a new magazine.  Firstly I stocked up on my favourite Aurifil.  It is 2026 50wt and ends up being the thread I use for 90% of my piecing and quilting.  What about you - what is your go-to thread?

Next up I was cutting Flower Patch (by Lori Holt for Riley Blake) and wondered whether everyone else is as anal as me and likes their whole quilt pre-cut and neatly stacked before they begin!

Over the weekend the new edition of Quilt Now arrived and, as usual, I picked my four favourite projects from the issue which this time were by Trudi Wood from Quilting Prolifically, Katy Jones from I'm A Ginger Monkey, Hadley Gordon from Flying Blind on a Rocket Cycle and Jo Avery from My Bearpaw.
And finally yesterday a parcel arrived containing these wonderful fabrics - Black and White by Cotton + Steel which will be next up on the cutting mat.

Comments

  1. My go to thread color is Aurifil 2310 which I think is just a bit darker than what you are using.

  2. After trying several kinds, my preferred thread is Maderia Cotona 50. As for cutting out, I hate it! I tend to cut out what I have to to get started, then do the rest as I need it. I tend to change my mind often about what I want to do, so this way works best for me. Obviously pre-cut fabric is the bomb ... !

  3. I have recently found I prefer Aurifil 2021. I just bought my first cone of it and am so excited to have so much on hand. I can't wait to see how long it lasts.

  4. My favourite thread is pale grey, either Aurifil 2600 (I think that's the right number but I'm not going upstairs to check!) or the Coats equivalent if I've run out of Aurifil. If I'm machine piecing, I tend to do all my cutting at the beginning (assuming I know exactly what I'm doing and am confident it's going to work. If not, I cut enough for a couple of 'test' blocks.) but if I'm hand piecing then I tend to prep a block at a time, or more if the block is fairly simple. I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with that lovely black and white fabric!

  5. I vacillate between 2021 and 2024 depending on the tone of my fabric. Always Aurifil though!

  6. I am still trying different threads so don't have a favorite yet. As for cutting my whole project out before I start; nope. I like to see how the fabrics work and sometimes I change my mind. I like to go with the flow

  7. I do love my Aurifil....as for neatly stacked fabric.....that's just never going to happen.

  8. Aurifil is my go to thread as well - I love it! I have about a dozen colors by now. I use mostly grays, but right now I'm working on an EPP project with a lot of white so I'm working with Aurifil 2021. I don't usually cut all my fabrics out first, I tend to cut out what I need for a few blocks or a section as I go, especially with a complicated project. I have to test first to be sure I measured and cut correctly!

  9. I like presencia 60/3 for piecing it's really strong with the 3 ply. I have just bought a box set of the 40wt Aurifil for quilting it's really lovely thread ! need to finish my quilt and start quilting with it !
