If I could wave a magic wand and live near one quilt shop, it would be Amitie Textiles in Melbourne. They do the best BOMs and have the best fabrics. Second best to having them near me is subscribing to their Liberty club, their stash club and doing their BOMs. Don't Bring Me Flowers is their current BOM. Round one sold out. I got in on round two and now round three has been announced so, if you're interested in joining the BOM or any of the stash clubs, get in touch with them at amitie@amitie.com.au. In this month, we have to do some serious hand piecing which I am really looking forward to as it will be a proper learning curve for me.
Subscribers to the Liberty club receive a beautiful package of charm squares (possibly slightly more like 6" x 7" I think) which I always save for something special.
And in the stash club you receive these squares of fabric just bigger than 10" layer cake squares I think. These are perfect to add to my scrap stash - I love adding these to my scrap projects because Jen from Amitie always seems to pick the coolest fabrics. And though there are always one or two uglies in these, I have long since learned from Jen that the uglies are the ones that make your scrappy projects sing.
Gorgeous fabrics (with, yes, a couple of exceptions!) and I can't wait to see your flowers block (blocks?) - I hope you enjoy the hand piecing, I'm determined to convert you ;o)
ReplyDeleteThey really are amazing fabric coordinators, the lovely peeps at Amitie. So clever. xx
ReplyDeleteI work 2 minutes from Amitie and live only another 5 minutes away. It can be a very expensive hobby when you are in such close proximity to the store. It is a fabulous place and the staff are brilliant. It takes all my will power to stay away and I only go when I really have to get a perfect match happening using their wonderful skills to help me coordinate colours. I never leave empty handed. It is probably a good thing you live so far away! It is too good a place. Happy stitching.
ReplyDeleteYou can never go wrong with Amitie! It's a pretty amazing place. I am a local too and I frequent the shop often. Have fun and enjoy those beautiful frabics!!
ReplyDeleteI love the line about ugly fabrics make the scrappy projects sing!
ReplyDeleteHaha learning curve! Looks like you are a convert to Amitie - and I agree uglies can make other things stand out in a scrappy project.
ReplyDeleteI need to do a new scrappy thing....but don't tell Helen! Though she is too busy converting you to hand piecing.
Have fun getting your curve on!
ReplyDeleteOne day when you come to Australia for a holiday and stay with me I will personally take you to my 'local' shop (Amitie). Takes me an hour to get there but it's worth every minute!
ReplyDeleteIs that not coals to newcastle???!
ReplyDeleteEeek! Are those thimbles I see!
ReplyDeleteA Liberty Club..... wow!
ReplyDeleteI'm having kittens over hand piecing too. I can confidently say it is not my forte! Why yes, I am working on Circle Game!!!
