And so month three of the Amitie Textiles Bring Me Flowers BOM brought what looked to me like a pretty easy block.
Jen of course hand pieces hers but I thought this block would come together pretty quickly if I made foundation paper piecing templates for each of the 2" square flower petal blocks.
The piecing of the corner blocks was straightforward. Trying to make everything meet in the middle was not so easy, took multiple attempts with extensive use of the seam ripper and ended up being close to OK but not perfect.
Inserting the stalks was the mother of all messes with me unpicking all sorts of seams, re-pressing seams in different direction, snipping seam allowances and altogether making an unholy mess of the blocks before cobbling them back together in not quite as good shape as they were before the stems came along. So, if you're doing this BOM, it could possibly be that piecing it by hand this month actually is quicker and easier than trying to be clever and shortcut the process with FPP templates.
And for those of you who missed them on Instagram, we at Fat Quarterly have been sent a lovely great big bundle of Jen Kingwell's patterns to be used as prizes at the retreat in just two short weeks.
And I have also had my stash bundle from the Amitie Stash Club - every month an array of interesting and unusual fabrics.
And finally, if you're on Instagram, make sure you follow @amitie_textiles to see wonderful fabrics, patterns and BOMs.

I love your blocks! I can't tell by looking at them that you struggled.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful block!
ReplyDeleteThey look like great blocks, despite having to wrestle them into submission! :o)

ReplyDeleteI love your blocks! And I don't see any imperfections!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm behind with my blocks:( I pieced only first two. I didn't yet get the third month package, so I should hurry up with the second month blocks:)
Well it looks like it was worth the PITA piecing! I have counted those patterns and will be keeping a watch that they all get won!
ReplyDeleteHahaha this cracked me up ;) Love your perseverance (and these blocks!)
ReplyDeleteOMGoodness! - i love this block. I just emailed Amitie about their Liberty Addict club now I am thinking I love the Flower blocks. Your looks terrific!
ReplyDeleteI love your blocks and the way you've used the fabric but yes, hand piecing these would have been a breeze compared to FPP ;o) Are you ready to overcome your fear yet?! #readyandwaiting
ReplyDeleteWow those blocks look really tough ... well done you for putting then together - they are little masterpieces. I saw some hand piecing being done at a recent quilt and craft show, she made it look so easy ...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to paper piece those blocks--and love the centers--it all looks terrific..Julierose
ReplyDeleteBoy am I behind with my blocks. But I'm going upstairs in a few minutes and will sew at least one block for me today. Thank you so much for sharing and especially for sharing your paper piecing templates.

Oh my word the result is lovely but never in a million years could I possibly even attempt this. Even looking at it makes me break out in a sweat.
