Liberty of London Giveaway And More...

Here in the UK we're very proud of Liberty of London and their beautiful tana lawn fabrics.  From an early age, I wore Liberty.  Here I am on the right in the picture, a bridesmaid with my two sisters at my Aunt Alison's wedding.  Dressed in Liberty lawn dresses made by my Mum.  My older sister, in the background passed out because of the responsibility of being chief bridesmaid.  My younger sister was shy, anxious and had to curl her toes to keep her ballet shoes on.  I was loud, cheeky, had a whale of a time and flirted outrageously with the groom's impossibly tall brothers.

Fast forward a few years and imagine my excitement to see this new book, by Alexia Abegg, called Liberty Love.  There are quilts, pillows, clothes, pincushions and even a dog collar pattern.  All using beautiful Liberty lawn fabrics, often mixed with modern fabrics.  For a modern British quilter, this book is mannah from quilting heaven.  Mix quilts and Liberty and I'm pretty much sold.

This quilt is on my next-to-do list - 100 Liberty cotton reels.  Quilt perfection.

The above quilt inspired me to make this pillow for a Katy's birthday this week.  A scrappy Liberty cotton reel using Liberty pieces very kindly sent to me by Jo from the Organic Stitch Co and Julie from Procrasticraft.

But the project from this book that has the whole of internet and instagram land jumping with excitement is the Marcelle Medallion, a modern Liberty sampler.  A few who have succumbed to its temptation are Cassie:

My real life friend (and possibly the nicest person in the whole quilting universe) Mandy:

 Amanda:

And moi:

And how lucky were we in the UK to discover a brand new modern quilting magazine called Love Quilting And Patchwork, available in newsagents here and also in Barnes & Noble in the US which featured the Marcelle Medallion.

And so to celebrate Liberty of London lawns, to celebrate Alexia's wonderful book, Liberty Love, to celebrate the Marcelle Medallion quilt and to celebrate the arrival of a fabulous new modern quilting magazine, I am having three giveaways in one post.

1.   One lucky reader will win this F8 bundle of Liberty tana lawn from Jo at Organic Stitch Co.

2.   Another lucky reader will be given a copy of Liberty Love courtesy of Stash Books.  In the US this will be a hard copy.  Outside the US, it will be an e-copy.
3.   A third lucky reader will win a copy of Love Quilting and Patchwork Magazine which has lots of lovely patterns in, including the Marcelle Medallion.

To be in with a chance of winning, let's keep it really simple.  Leave me a comment.  That's all.  The first winner will win the Liberty lawn, the second will win Liberty Love and the third will win the magazine!

  46. Liberty fabric, what a lovely idea. I remember when I was very little my mother had a precious silk scarf that was Liberty. I wonder whatever happened to it!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Besides a yard and a half of their Tana Lawn I bought to make a shirt from I haven't risked buying any - cause I promptly pre-washed with a less than colorfast dark blue material, promptly staining it all over :o

I have to say, I REALLY love the colors you chose for your quilt, ALMOST enough to make me jump on the making one bandwagon, but I will still resist!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hard to imagine you loud & cheeky............

    ReplyDelete
  49. I knew that Liberty is popular in UK, but I didn't know that in the past people sew so lovely clothes from it! So I'm not surprised that you're so proud of Liberty. It's some sort of your heritage, right?

PS. You all three look so adorable:)

    ReplyDelete

  58. I've always loved Liberty Tana Lawn. No visit to London has ever been complete without a visit to Liberty's on Regent Street, just so I can drool over the fantastic fabric department. I've been going there for forty five years, ever since I was a teenager in the sixties.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  65. Loved your bridesmaid story! Thanks for sharing these lovely items.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have yet to get the chance to interact with Liberty lawn fabric yet and am inching closer to buying some because people on the internet are just raving about it. What is it about this Liberty fabric that people are so in love with? - the fabric quality? the prints? that it's British? I love some of the prints quite a bit so maybe soon I'll decide to get a little. Your pillow is going to be on my new project list and the Medallion quilt is a must to do for me. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I enjoy learning how you Brits call pillows "Cushions" and spools "Reels". Coincidentally, I'm in the process of making my Baker's Dozen exchange blocks that have a "spools" theme. Have you seen Edyta Sitar's lovely Spools Quilt? The "Dancing Spools" quilt is also fun with it's 3D thread reels, made similarly as 3D bowtie blocks.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I love your wedding photo!! All three of you girls are adorable. Which sister is the one who got the YouTube quilt? Still want to make one of those! Thanks for the giveaway.

Now I would use the fabric for quilting not clothing but I still love liberty - it is my dream fabric to own.
