Sizzix and Tilda quilt

Here's a quilt I made for Sizzix using some beautiful Tilda fabrics.  This quilt is 50" square - perfect cot quilt, playmat, lap quilt or wall hanging size.  I cut 6 1/2" squares, lopped off the corners and replaced them with HSTs cut from the Sizzix 2 1/2" HST die.  The great thing about using Sizzix HSTs is there is no trimming and I hate trimming.  I then sashed using the Sizzix 1 1/2" strip die.  I set the whole thing on point because almost without exception, any quilt or block looks more interesting to me set on point.

I quilted it using Aurifil 50wt 2024 which is about the colour of Kona snow.  I used a 50wt rather than anything heavier as I wanted the quilting lines to add texture but otherwise just melt into the quilt.  Since I was straight line quilting, I pre-marked the quilting lines with a hera marker.  I used to think I could eyeball straight lines using the blocks on the quilt as a guide but for some reason, that always ends up looking messy so I always mark straight lines for quilting now and the results are much cleaner.  I chose a vertical / horizontal cross hatch to work against the diagonal sashing.  But what to call it?

  10. It's a very elegant quilt so perhaps it needs a 'proper' name (like a person!) rather than a quilt name. I'm coming up blank so I'd best find my thinking hat and see if it still fits, I'll be back if I think of anything even halfway decent...

  11. It's lovely...so fresh. As for a name, I'm actually quite pathetic in naming quilts.

  12. <3 LOVE this quilt!!! GREAT job!!!!! If you get a chance, could you please take a close-up picture of just one of the squares/hexagons. I DID read your directions on your blog and that does sound like something I'd like to try. (I still NEW at this and think I can TRY anything - and found a few things I couldn't go any farther! LOL)

  14. It's really pretty. I am terrible at thinking up names, but balls comes to mind. It looks like Christmas balls, or some sort of candy...the kind people display in those great big glass jars.

    Lost Marbles

Because, bear with me, I reckon if you ever went bonkers and lost your marbles you would eventually find them somewhere, completely organised and lined up in neat rows!

Saw that others already suggested to take a name after a person. Aunt Dotty comes to mind :-)
