Hexalong - Lily talks on film

OK now I was brave with this video and I actually spoke but go easy on me.  I mumble and I am not really very good at this video tutorial thing yet.  So here's how to baste your EPP shapes.  Let me know if you can even see what I'm doing because my hands kept getting in the way.

  1. Could see it no problem and you sounded very knowledgeable.

  2. yay! basting AND speaking ... great vid and lovely to hear your voice (although as we couldn't see your face you could easily have just got someone to do a voiceover and we'd be none the wiser!)

But, if it is you, your voice is EXACTLY what my mind hears when I read your words ... which is jolly nice.

  4. You sound much posher than I imagined... No offence :-) Very brave for basting and speaking though. I wibbled and wobbled over posting a picture of my actual face on flickr last week.

  6. Great wee vid, you stabbed yourself with the needle almost as often as I do! Loved it :-)

  7. Stitchy Spice, lol - love it!

    Great job!

For what it is worth I use my cheap "rubbish" thread for basting. You go through so much of it and take it out anyways, so why bother using the good stuff?

  8. I think you did a good job! A thought for the future though: turn so that you're filming with the windows behind the camera. Same as taking a picture, you want the light to fall on your work, not place you in shadows.

  9. Arrggghh! I don't have sound on this computer and the iPad doesn't do utube. Scuppered!

  10. Oh I love the name Stitchy Spice for you! lol. I'm just tickled to hear your accent. I always tried to imagine it, but it's even more delicious than I thought. I'm such a sucker for accents from other countries.

And that is one HUGE needle lady! And I had to laugh at your instructions to "stab" the hexagon. I think you must get a lot of pent up frustration out on these paper pieced blocks.

  11. Great video, Stitchy Spice! I'm with LJ, I'd expected a regional accent so I'll have to adjust the lily voice in my head accordingly! Everything was clear - no problem with your hands getting in the way but I think I may now have hand envy ;o)

  12. OMG I could not detect any accent!!
So there still are people (outside the BBC) who speak RP!

  13. Great tutorial. This Hexalong is soooo tempting, especially now that we get to see and hear you teaching. :)

  15. goodness, you're adorable.I LOVE it that you have even perfected the tea-drinking-pinky-finger-out thread pulling technique. Must be a British thingy. AND you're a lovely lefty on top of it all!

  18. Adorable!! :) And -- you're left handed! :) Which makes it super helpful for me. :)

  19. Well done Lynne - I could never do this as my N Ireland accent (mixed with Scottish) would be TOO weird
Now I need to get some of these UFO / WIP's finished so I can join in (once I've found a project format that suits my unusual tastes)

  21. I should have expected your accent, but it caught me a little off guard. Sometimes, I forget that you are not in the United States. Your use of "anti-clockwise" reminds me.

Anyway, if using heavier paper, such as an index card, to make the templates, it would be difficult to baste through the paper. So, I just baste around the template and only through the fabric--I do not sew through the template. Therefore, the templates are reusable. A hole punched from the middle of the template makes the template easy to remove. I'll post a photo of my kit and samples.
