Le coral est arrive

OK so here is block 1 of 16 in the quilt I am making for my sister's friend Carla. Finally the Kona coral arrived in the UK over Easter so I could get the first trial block made. As I am thinking of QAYG, I need Carla to choose her backing fabric at this point. I had orignally planned to use Kona charcoal but, given that she loves red, I wonder about something more exciting. Any suggestions?

  1. Love how you framed the prints, it really makes them stand out. This is going to be a very pretty quilt! Sorry no suggestions I'm a fan of charcoal.

  2. This looks so pretty, it's really eye catching. I think the charcoal would be good for the back. Or maybe charcoal binding with a red backing.

  3. Oooh these are scrummy

How about a pieced coral and charcoal back? Something blocky (framed blank blocks?) or summat

  4. Gorgeous block! I love love love those Melody Miller prints. How about a turqoise backing? It might be a bit garish for some but I think it looks lovely with coral!

  5. Beautiful! Yes I too was thinking more coral or turquoise or combo of several colours for the back. A large amount of charcoal might be too 'heavy' for the lovely brightness of the front. Jxo

  6. Turquoise, or maybe that wonderful cornflour blue in the teapot flowers and borders. Or a combo of these and red and charcoal, checkerboard as you go!??

  7. I have no suggestions, but I will say this is awesome. I've always thought RSR was kind of a pointless print (as in, it's cute but what would I really do with it?) but the way you've used it is just great. Now I want some!!

  11. This is fabulous Lynne - what a clever way to showcase the big prints - how big is the block?

A mix of all your colours on the back would make it pretty much reversible.

  14. Mmmm, I love your block. I reakon the pink colour on the viewfinder might be interesting on the back. I love a brushed woven back or failing that retro flannel, ahh I know you will come up with something ace for it. You make wonderful quilts.

  15. The retro chairs or houses from Birch Circa 50 collection - organic too!

  17. I love what you did with those prints! The colors are striking. I'm not even going to make a comment on the back because I know you will come up with something fabulous!

  18. Fabulous first block, Lynne!!! I like to use big prints on the back of my quilts...they hide a multitude of fmq sins, if you know what I mean (not that you are committing any, btw). In fact, I don't think I've ever backed a quilt with a solid. Let us know what you decide!

  19. I'm wondering how a grey and white hounds tooth print would look as the background.... Hmm... I think I like it!

  21. Beautiful!!! :-) I'm not sure if red will fight with the coral? But I was just thinking that Ingrid Slyder's Robotic Stars (http://www.fabricworm.com/inslrostred.html - also available in gray and turquoise) would really suit the style of the Melody Miller prints. I think gray and turquoise could be really nice!
