QAL hiccups and a special treat

Well I guess I got the hiccups yesterday.  One of the templates was just plain wrong.  How did I make it wrong when I'd made the original right?  Why did I think that 1 1/4 plus 1 1/4 would add up to 1 1/2?  Dunno.  Seriously dunno.  Brain Freeze?  Early onset alzheimers.  Who knows.  Anyway, the template is now fixed so throw away your old QAL1 templates and make sure the one you have now measures 9" long, 4 1/4" wide at one end tapering to 1 1/2" wide at the narrow end (OK, that is making me laugh because it sounds like I'm measuring something else that people talk about in inches).  The correct link is now in the original templates post or you can find it by clicking here.

So those were yesterday's hiccups which did make me a bit anxious and stressed and feeling like maybe I'm not quite up to this QAL lark.  I don't actually mind getting things wrong and being a bit of a pratt but the thought that there were people out there in the big wide world cutting into their gorgeous fabrics using my dodgy template did make me feel a bit nauseous.  But then a nice thing happened.

I got an email from Laura Needles, Pins and Baking Tins who linked me through to this post on her blog where she has photos of the fabulous quilt top she has made in Innocent Crush from my Hexagon Park Moda Bake Shop tutorial.  I'm not quite sure if I will ever get to the point where I get over the excitement of seeing things I have designed made by someone else.  It's a very good feeling and made me feel like perhaps I can do this after all.  Just look at this gorgeousness.

  1. Wow! What a beautiful quilt. You are an inspiration to so many Lynne (like me), and it's great when you get things wrong sometimes cos then it makes us feel you're within reach! (sorry that's meant to sound encouraging!). Judith xo

  2. Ah Lynn, don't worry about a few mistakes. At least you are giving it a go which is more than most of us will ever do.
On the plus side, I haven't tried to print them yet, so I know they will be fine now. The joys of procrastinating! I have picked my fabric though.
    Lauras hexie quilt is lovely.

Soon there'll be even more of your 'babies' out there ...

I took your advice and re-downloaded the new one and all is now tickety boo here ... comin out at February and a half perfectly! I cut some strips from my fabric last night, in preparation, so fingers crossed I cut em long enough to make up for MY mistake! tee hee

  5. I love that quilt top, what a pretty pattern (props!) and a great use of Innocent Crush--a line I drool over and have yet to purchase. Drat my lack of wealth. :)

  6. Hiccups are natural. One cure to be rid of them is by breathing deeply and slowly. Thanks for adjusting the templates.

  8. Measuring is my total downfall. I have learned a LOT of tricks to cover up a measuring mistake. *S* In fact, I almost used the wrong QAL1 - even after I had run two copies of the correct one. I swan.......

That's a wonderful quilt you designed. What more can you ask?

  9. I've heard that drinking from the wrong side of a glass, while upside down, with one finger in your ear is a surefire way to cure those hiccups you mention :-)

Seriously though, don't sweat it. You're only human. An amazingly-talented-designer human whose pattern I only hope to do justice too... but human none the less.

Thanks for the mention, my quilt looks great on your blog. (I'm still waiting for someone to point out that it's actually upside down in the picture... oops!)

  13. Agh! All of these beautiful hexagon park quilts. I want one! But I can't make every quilt out there. Okay Lynne...here's a question for you. Should I make your hexagon park quilt or should I do your quilt along quilt? I'll be supportive either way. I know what way I'm leaning... but I'll let you decide. I'm done with decisions.

  16. Lynne, I love this QAL already and you're great :)
As for hiccups, my gradma's cure was to scare the hiccuping person (my sister and I used to love it and use every occasion to try this cure on each other ;))
And Laura's quilt top is beautiful.

  17. hee hee.. inches.. giggle!! it's a good part of your QAL to learn that hiccups happen but you just have another go, it happens with my quilts all the time! I sometimes think I use my unpicker more than my sewing machine! The innocent Crush quilt is gorgeous!!! I'm so going to have to make that pattern one day.. in my crazy brights of course.

  18. We're all still here arent' we? Hiccups be damned. No worries Lynne, it's not like we're PAYING you for all this work, after all! Those pesky 1/4" have gotten the better of me many times before, too. 3rd grade math was just soooo long ago!

Wow, Laura's hexagon quilt is gorgeous!!
