Siblngs Together Quilting Bee - Nicky

Hello my name is Nicky and I am glad to be here on Lynne's blog to tell you about the last quilt in a year of the fabulous sponored Siblings Together Quilting Bee.  I'd like to thank all the sponsors who contributed so generously to all the quilts we made.  I'm looking forward to seeing some of those quilts at the Fat Quarterly Retreat and their fabulous makers!

I chose the glorious bundle of Moda Mixed Bag for my month!  Moda these are great fun fabrics - just right for this project.

Such happy colours and patterns!  As they are busy fabric I decided to go with a very simple block and chose a modified super easy nine patch.  My tutorial is he re if you actually need one!   If I tell you the block is 18" finished then I'm sure you can work out the maths for yourself.

My bee mates all did an excellent job and the blocks went together so easily!

I added a few inches round the border and backed this bright quilt with the gorgeous Letterpress backing fabric in teal so kindly donated by Bec ky from  sewmeasong! (she also has it in red, grey, mustard and multi)  I adore this fabric it really makes a great quilt back!

I quilted in the ditch around those six inch squares then added lots of straight line quilting the length of the quilt - simple but effective!

Finally I bound the quilt in a dark blue solid!

Looking forward to delivering this quilt to FQR London and getting a group shot of the makers!

I have some fabric left over and am aiming to make a clone of this one so there will be a matching pair - just as well it is such a quick make!

  2. It's a gorgeous quilt and I'm sure that the child who gets it will love it. It's a lovely idea to make a matching (or almost matching) pair for a pair of siblings - good luck with the second one!
