Thank you from the Quilting Club of the Greenwich Free School

Hello! We are the quilters of the Greenwich Free School, and we wanted to write a blog post to say thank you very, very much to everyone who sent us their scraps.  For those of you who missed our previous post, Mr Brown, our maths teacher, is mad about maths, and particularly patterns, this is his favourite tessellation and we used it as the inspiration for our Maths Quilt!

We wanted to try to make a quilt of this pattern because Mr Brown liked it so much. So we designed this pattern to make a rainbow quilt. We decided that each of us would make one of the big pentagons that has one star and five decagons in it. Then we could sew them all together and make one quilt that we had all been part of.  Your scraps are all going into this quilt.

Thank you again so, so much for sending us your scraps.  We made cards for anyone who sent us an address, but some of you didn’t let us know where you live, so we thought we’d take some photos of our thank you cards for you.

Lastly, here is a photo of all the envelopes that we received from generous quilters all over the world, and our cards going back to them. We couldn’t believe how many people wanted to help us make our maths quilt – we were so pleased and so surprised, and can’t say thank you enough!

  4. This is special! I can't wait to see their finished Maths Quilt. Since I was an Applied Math/Computer Science major, I just might have to make one for myself. However, it looks very tricky.
