And so I made my own #stlouis16patch. Originally designed, tutorialed and made by Steffani at Sew With Sass and outlined in this blogpost, the St Louis 16 Patch swept Instagram a few months ago and I watched and loved all the quilts appearing under that hashtag. And felt the need to make my own. Wind forward a few months and I decided I could no longer resist an Anna Maria Horner voile bundle from Westwood Acres (who put together the most beautiful bundles). And finally the quilt is quilted and bound and finished and ready for action.
I quilted it using a deep bright pink Aurifil 40wt.
I decided it would make sense to baste it using basting spray but, given that the quilt is 80" square and the top is slippery voile, that proved to be the wrong decision and much wailing, gnashing of teeth and re-basting with pins ensued.
I backed it using this fabulous large scale Anna Maria Horner Field Study print from Sew Fresh Fabrics.
And its fate is now undecided. Do I keep it and add it to the excessively large pile of quilts in this house? Do I give it away to someone in my family? Or shall I sell it? Seriously, as sad as it is to sell quilts, I might end up doing that with this one because otherwise my house will start to turn into one of those episodes of hoarders where the children are pinned to the floor by the weight of quilts in every room.
I'll be happy to help you out with getting rid of it if you like. As a favour, you understand ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh no! This is a keeper, unless of course you have piles and piles of Voile quilts?! You need to keep it, you need to posses bedding of different weights dont you?!
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteI so love this one and I know how soft it is using voile....really do you think you can part with it ? But I also know the hoarder felling... I swear they are filming soon at my house.
ReplyDeleteOh I love it !! And I would LOVE to be weighted to the floor by quilts in my house... :D
ReplyDeleteLol on the hoarders bit!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty made with the voile! I bet it is so soft and lovely
You could donate it to charity. Quilting Ranny needs quilts...its so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am a quilt hoarder, that is why him in doors nagged me to open up on Etsy lol I do however think every room in the house should have a voile quilt in it-just incase the need to pet a super soft quilt happens upon you :D
ReplyDeleteBugger the kids, keep the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI think you might have tipped me over the edge into buying a voile bundle, I've been resisting forever! This is just stunning Lynne!
ReplyDeleteI bought that bundle a while back, good to know about the spray basting, for when I come to cut into it! As for the quilt, what Mrs FB said ;o)
ReplyDeleteIt's a beauty....but only you can decide it's fate....never easy, I know!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I only just started keeping quilts a couple years ago, so we've still got plenty of room!
ReplyDeleteSaw it on IG, it is sooooo lovely and beautiful! Love the colors & fabrics, I wish I could touch it!
ReplyDeleteso loverly miss Lynne. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, love your color choices!
ReplyDeleteIt's so gorgeous! I want to make one.
ReplyDeleteIt could be wall art!? There are surfaces I'm sure you haven't covered yet - think UP!
ReplyDeleteA definite keeper or a present for someone very special. Love it !
ReplyDeleteKeep it yourself: voile is soooo nice and soft.
ReplyDeleteKeep yourself under it, hide, build a tent!
LOL
Beautiful quilt that definitely needs to be used to pin the kids down! Di x
ReplyDeletestunning and I would keep it!
ReplyDeleteBRING IT IN NOVEMBER AND GIVE IT TO ME.
ReplyDeleteIt is so pretty. You know that those kids will one day need quilts for their own houses, and they will take some so you could keep it knowing that one day the quilts will be on the move.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good size quilt. Whatever you do with it, I'm sure you will be pleased.
ReplyDeleteIf they were pinned by this, they'd be lucky ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's voile so won't pin anyone down, and you absolutely have to keep it. Even if it's the last one you ever keep or you give another slightly less loved one away instead......
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely. I couldn't part with it if it were mine.
ReplyDeleteI can't even say give it to me as my house is fuller and fuller of quilted objects.
