Hi, I'm Alice from Blossom Heart Quilts. This was originally supposed to be a Sewist's Christmas Bunting, but thanks to holidays, a naughty postal service and bad timing with my month-long trip back home, it's now become Spring Time Bunting! A quick and easy version involving strip piecing.
What you will need:
3 - 1.5" x 1yd tape measure fabric (This length is just to strip piece them all in one go. If you choose to buy less, you would need to make multiple strip-pieced units to get the tape measures horizontal.)
4 - 1.5" x 1yd dark green.
2 1/4yd - 25mm silver bias binding
60 degree triangle ruler or template - 7" tall
Use a 1/4" seam. Press seams open.
Step 1. Strip piece the fabric, alternating green and tape measure fabric. If you are sewing 1yd strips of fabric, lengthen your stitch length to help keep a nice straight seam.
Step 2. Use a 60 degree triangle ruler or template to cut a 7" tall triangle.
Step 3. Flip the ruler/template and cut another triangle. Repeat along your strip.
Step 4. Sew the bunting triangles on to one inside edge of the bias binding, overlapping the corners as shown in the image above.
Step 5. Fold the binding over and topstitch down.
Step 6. Trim each side of the triangle with pinking shears. This will prevent fraying.
Step 7. If you have a problem with the seams poking out the side, trim the corners at an angle like shown above.
Step 8. Hang up and enjoy!
Thanks Lynne and Abakahn for giving me the opportunity to make and share this tutorial! I wonder how long this will last hanging up in the lounge room before my husband has something to say about it...
