Are you coming to London in June, to the Fat Quarterly Sewing Retreat weekend? I am going to be teaching foundation paper piecing to make this pillow (28" x 18" just like a real UK pillow).
I have a few questions for you to help me plan my workshop. Have you paper pieced before? Would you like there to be an additional easy paper piecing template (with a pattern to make a different pillow or cushion cover as we call them here in the UK) for any of you who have not really tried foundation paper piecing and are nervous about launching into the union jack as a first project? Maybe something simple like this?
Union Jack please, oh Jubulant teacher xxx
ReplyDeleteI love paper piecing... and am "competent"...
ReplyDeleteI'm not bothered about additonals - think the union flag is a superb option based on location, jubilee and olympics etc.
Have been wanting to have a go at one of these for ages - so can't wait!!
I am coming, have never paper pieced before but am very happy to dive straight in to the Union Jack! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteOh Lynne wish I could go but the International Quilt Festival of Ireland is on in Galway the beginning of June and the budget wouldn't strech to doing the two, so envious
ReplyDeletewould love to make a Union Jack. Also, I am very excited about finding out the right way to paper piece - I have been winging it up to now!
ReplyDeleteI can't make it which is rubbish! But I love the look of the union jack pillow! :)
ReplyDeleteErm is hexies paper piecing proper? If so I've done that with Katy, Tascha & Brioni at FofQ. I would of course be happy to make anything taught by you Lynne. But if I had a choice I would do a different pattern (for a weird reason, sorry being Irish I love living in the UK but a union jack pillow isn't really my thing!) sorry!
ReplyDeleteYes I am coming, can I be in your class please. I would love to learn the union jack and also love the flying geese. Most everything I know about foundation piecing I learned from you on your blog, so it would be wonderful to learn for real.
ReplyDeleteI like the union jack, I already have a giant windmill like that ;o)
ReplyDeleteHave just been teaching myself hexie so why not jump right in w the Union Jack cushion!
ReplyDeleteHave just been teaching myself hexie so why not jump right in w the Union Jack cushion!
ReplyDeletei hope you will offer the Union Jack pattern (for purchase) for those of us who are unable to attend your class in London. Please!
ReplyDeleteNever done it (!) but UJ sounds good and anyway, Katy will have got me started with her PPFTT series...hopefully.
ReplyDeleteUnion Jack for me please, my Mum keeps badgering me to make her one. Two birds, one stone!!
ReplyDeleteHello! I just found you via flickr on the FWQ along (I'm just starting!) I also found out about this fat quarterely meet up in London recently too, would absolutely LOVE to come but it may be too far for me to travel as I live in Cornwall :( Your paper peicing cushion looks so fun! I think for newbies to the skill (like myself) would feel more at ease with the template you have shown below.
ReplyDeleteJessie, xo
Definitely Union Jack please.
ReplyDeleteYes I'm coming and if I'm not in your class I'll cry.
ReplyDeleteI've never done any before and the union jack looks terrifying so the easier option would be good, although I do like a challenge!! I may have a go before June.
Oh and tell Jessie to come, you might convince her ;)
Unfortunately I'm not coming to London. But I would love to learn the pattern for the circular flying geese. Did you do a tutorial for it? I'll miss the Union Jack...
ReplyDeleteYes I'm coming, but not with my machine as I'm flying and I don't think I'd get it past Ryanair! If there are any spare machines, then I would love to try the Union Jack. I have done a few bits of paper pieceing, which I love doing - not sure competent would be the right description!!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried foundation paper piecing before but am happy to just jump in and try the Union Jack (although I will have to find a different home for it as my hubby is Irish and not a fan ;-)).
ReplyDeleteLove paper piecing and definitely competent. My duaghter has a union jack themed bedroom so this is a class I must take.
ReplyDeleteUnion Jack pretty please!
ReplyDeleteI have tried paper piecing a few times and really love the results. definitely the union jack for me. Am only there on the Saturday, so hope I don't miss your class
ReplyDeleteI hate !! Cushions and love the Union Jack. It's going to be a tough decision.
ReplyDeleteI dont like the square in a square (boring) and I love the dancing geese although they must be thick: flying in a circle, one following the other.
Glad I'm not a goose, but I like to travel too.
Are you still there?
if I could just find a sugar daddy to fly me across the pond I would love to join you! I wouldn't be picky about what you wanted to teach, I need to learn it all. Maybe he could throw in a few extra days so I could do some sighseeing - have only been to London once, for 3 days and packed in as much as I could but would like to see more. can anyone tell me where one finds sugar daddys when your 67?
ReplyDeleteI'll be there, I've made a whole quilt using the foundation method without really thinking about it so I'm guessing I could manage this!? I am really looking forward to the retreat - hurrah!
ReplyDeleteoh...i have no idea how i would convince my husband i need to fly overseas to a sewing retreat...wish i had won the lottery last weekend...
ReplyDeletei will have a cup of tea in your honor..
I feel confident in paper piecing, having made quite many different blocks by now.
ReplyDeleteI would love to attend your class, nevertheless :)
And if you have any seminars on hand on how to create your own paper piecing blocks, that woold be great too!
Ohhhh, cannot wait till June!!
Sure wish I could come... too far to travel! But will be in Glasgow/Stirling/Edinburgh in August!
ReplyDeletei am not coming but would love to do the union jack !!!
ReplyDeleteSob Sob, I wont be able to come to London....so can't participate, if only....such great choices...If I were able to come, I'd be trying to squeeze in all 3!
ReplyDeleteHugs
Naomi
