Playtime, originally uploaded by Lynne @ Lilys Quilts.
Another month in the Amitie BOM where I go off and make up my own block. Well it's not completely my invention, I just drafted up a sort of pared down Georgetown Circle - a block which I am building up to doing a whole quilt of (mmm, bad grammar). I pushed myself to go scrappy on this block and I really struggle with that. I know I should like scrappy but it feels like one step too far for me. My younger sister (the other one from the one who comments on here) would have a nervous breakdown if she saw this block. All those colours sitting next to each other would bring her out in hives. I'm feeling a bit hivesey myself looking at it but I'm warming to it if I squint. I also need to re-paint my block photographing board so it's not so shiny - it's gettin on me piggin nerves.
Lynne, you are not alone when it comes to struggling with colors. I have a very difficult time with the "scrappy" look. All those colors make me a big crazy. IMHO it needs to be grounded but when other people do it I think "well, that is pretty" for instance this block is nice. But I would never attempt it.
ReplyDeleteFabulous and worth the hives!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it! It makes me smile and want to do a little dance - much better than some quilts that make me want to frown and be depressed! Thanks for sharing that!
ReplyDeleteThis whole post made me chuckle. Okay, I like the center, but maybe not the plaid next to the points. But maybe it's just me and stuff happening today...
ReplyDeleteTake an antihistamine and get over it. You do scrappy to the nines! Another stunner.I'm still saving for my very own little scrap quilt one day.
ReplyDeleteLOL...you are too funny!!! I feel the same with that much scrappy, but keep working with it...squinting does help...lol It will look great; you know it. Im too old fashion; you know; matchie matchie....
ReplyDeleteOne can never have to many colours.....it looks great.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like the outfits my French 'penfriend' wore when we were at school!!
ReplyDeleteWhy not appliqué it on a t-shirt, pop on your tinfoil specs and watch your children cry!
I actually like it a lot :)
Fabulous! Go with it baby! Take a deep breath and ride that scrappy high!! Jxo
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing Lynne! I would never have thought to combine all of those fabrics, but they all work so well. It's crazy in an awesome way! I still can't believe you've been quilting for such a short time and come up with this kind of stuff!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat's the problem? I think your block looks great, but I love scrappy quilts. You must not be a fan of Kaffe Fassette designs either.
ReplyDeleteOoooooo, if it's causing you pain, sent to me!!! I love it. All those colors and patterns together are gorgeous. Keep at it. It will be spectacular!
ReplyDeleteI really like this block. I love the scrappiness, I think you did a great job.
ReplyDeleteYour block is awesome! You have a gift...keep stretching outside your comfort level. Love, love love what you do!

I can't figure out how you put the curves and the points together. It is very scrappy and I think you should send it to me right away before the hives get too bad.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...I need Ativan to even LOOK at a scrap quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove this, it's so scrappy and wonderful! I have a bit of a hard time putting fabric together like this, thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I love it. Try a solid or reads-as-solid in the center if you just have to tone it down a bit.
ReplyDeleteLooking good - it will be interesting to see it with all the others
