Playing in the Amitie BOM

Playtime, originally uploaded by Lynne @ Lilys Quilts.
Another month in the Amitie BOM where I go off and make up my own block. Well it's not completely my invention, I just drafted up a sort of pared down Georgetown Circle - a block which I am building up to doing a whole quilt of (mmm, bad grammar). I pushed myself to go scrappy on this block and I really struggle with that. I know I should like scrappy but it feels like one step too far for me. My younger sister (the other one from the one who comments on here) would have a nervous breakdown if she saw this block. All those colours sitting next to each other would bring her out in hives. I'm feeling a bit hivesey myself looking at it but I'm warming to it if I squint.  I also need to re-paint my block photographing board so it's not so shiny - it's gettin on me piggin nerves.

  1. Lynne, you are not alone when it comes to struggling with colors. I have a very difficult time with the "scrappy" look. All those colors make me a big crazy. IMHO it needs to be grounded but when other people do it I think "well, that is pretty" for instance this block is nice. But I would never attempt it.

  2. I LOVE it! It makes me smile and want to do a little dance - much better than some quilts that make me want to frown and be depressed! Thanks for sharing that!

  3. This whole post made me chuckle. Okay, I like the center, but maybe not the plaid next to the points. But maybe it's just me and stuff happening today...

  7. It looks like the outfits my French 'penfriend' wore when we were at school!!

Why not appliqué it on a t-shirt, pop on your tinfoil specs and watch your children cry!

    I actually like it a lot :)

  9. It's amazing Lynne! I would never have thought to combine all of those fabrics, but they all work so well. It's crazy in an awesome way! I still can't believe you've been quilting for such a short time and come up with this kind of stuff!!!

  10. What's the problem? I think your block looks great, but I love scrappy quilts. You must not be a fan of Kaffe Fassette designs either.

  14. I can't figure out how you put the curves and the points together. It is very scrappy and I think you should send it to me right away before the hives get too bad.

  17. Beautiful, I love it. Try a solid or reads-as-solid in the center if you just have to tone it down a bit.
